Mission: The florida wildlife federation promotes, through education and advocacy, the conservation, restoration and sound management of florida's fish and wildlife and their habitats. The organization also encourages the public's appreciation of florida's environment through sustainable, resource-based outdoor recreation.
Programs: Conserving florida's wildlife habitats: increased net acreage of land placed in conservation through easements thru increased habitat, rural land stewardship program, promotion of backyard habitat program, promotion of state conservation land acquisition, habitat enhancement project following the may 2010 oil spill in the gulf of mexico. Inspiring an ethic of environmental stewardship: promoted youth recreational activities at locations such as fwf preserve, beau turner center, forever florida, and other locations around the state. Served as a leader in "get outdoors, florida" campaign under the governor, worked to get more citizens in the outdoors hunting and fishing through service on fwcc committees, promotion of youth activities in the outdoors through extracurricular activities. Provided bus transportation for young students in collier county to visit picayune strand state forest. Conserving wildlife by mitigating climate change: promoted a renewable energy portfolio standard at the state level; worked with florida farming and forestry industries to educate policymakers on the benefits of renewable energy, using florida-grown crops and bi-products of agriculture and silva culture; participated in first "florida forever conversation on conservation" meeting with over 80 forest growers and users to engage in dialogue to help maintain working forests; organized 2 landowner workshops to explain the benefits to forestry from carbon sequestration; help public forums on negative impacts of near-shore oil drilling and the benefits derived from renewable energy.
southwest florida office is focused on habitat protection for the florida panther. The organization played a significant role in developing the florida panther protection plan, a partnership between eight landowners and four conservation organizations including the federation, to implement a shared vision for the protection, management and recovery of the florida panther; the plan will forever protect 140,000 acres of private lands from development in the southwest florida counties and restore a major east-west wildlife habitat link.
northeast florida office is a leader in disseminating information regarding the establishment of a regional corridor to provide vital habitat for the florida black bear, linking the ocala national forest with the matanzas state forest; makes presentations weekly to groups about growth management issues and the importance of preserving wildlife habitat; monitors and promotes sound growth management policies in all of the northeast florida counties.
