Causes: Animals, Wildlife Sanctuaries
Mission: Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center: dedicated to rehabilitation of injured and orphaned animals, with a goal of returning them to wild native habitat. Equally committed to public education on wildlife issues.
Programs: Fwma provided clean safe facilities, food, and medical care for 1068 animals in 2017, including 474 wild mammals, 466 native birds, 44 native reptiles, and 57 exotics or domestics. Around 63% of the animals (671)were rehabilitated and returned to the wild. Another 4% (42) were adopted, 3% (35) were transferred to other education facilities, and 4% (46)remained in care at year-end. Fwma also provided a permanent home to 27 educational animals that were not releasable.
the youth education program at fwma provides employment and volunteer opportunities for young people while caring for animals. Onsite participation included 4 high school students with disabilities, 5 at-risk individuals who earned 300 community service hours,6 students who earned 650 credit hours towards a scholarship, and a college student internship for 6 months over the summer. Project workdays at the center had 4 student groups with 65 students who participated on 4 separate days. Outreach programs included 20 community events we attended with educational animals from the center.
