I began to volunteer at this clinic a number of years ago. It started in 2005 and is currently open only 4 times a month, yet it serves almost two thousand low-income patients a year who have no healh insurance. Patients do not pay for medical attendion and all the physicians, nurses, and support staff are volunteeers. The clinic just received it's 501(c)(3) this past year and it receives all it's funding from individual donors and is supported by our local community (it receives no government funding). For example, we had one female patient who was seen by our cardiologist and was found to have a hole in her heart - thereby explaining her long-term symptoms. I believe this cllinic has saved many lives since 2005.
