Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animals, Cats, Veterinary Services

Mission: FixNation’s mission is to reduce the population of homeless cats by sterilizing as many as possible. At the same time, by consistently showing the effectiveness of Trap-Neuter-Return, we seek changes in public policy so that TNR becomes the officially sanctioned and government-funded approach to homeless cat management.

Results: FixNation has spayed and neutered over 125,000 cats since 2007! FixNation staff have trained thousands of community members in humane and best practices for Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) programs. To support TNR, FixNation also loans traps free of charge to the public.

Target demographics: Stray and feral, homeless cats; Colony Caregivers

Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2016 we spayed and neutered over 15,000 cats!

Geographic areas served: Los Angeles and Surrounding Areas

Programs: To achieve this mission, FixNation operates the nation's first full-time clinic dedicated to high-volume spay-neuter of homeless cats. FixNation devotes its resources directly toward decreasing the number of unowned homeless cats though free and low-cost sterilization services at our clinic, along with TNR training and support.

I think this organization is a wonder! They helped me TNR a mother cat in my yard and I was able to get the kitties all vaccinated and placed. I would not have been able to do that without them and they probably all would have ended up in a shelter and most likely killed. The staff is kind and helpful and go out of their way to make sure all your questions are answered. Please donate and spread the word!

I take all my foster kittens here to be spayed and neutered. It's fantastic and they always come home to make a full recovery. The fact that they are fixing all homeless cats that are brought in is unbelievable! Trapping, fixing, and releasing homeless cats back into their environment is the very best chance we have of reducing the homeless cat population. Fix Nation is making that happen.

Feral cats tend to wander on to the property where I live because we have a really nice garden setting. And since we are such a nice group of neighbors, we end up feeding the cats. Then we trap them, take them to Fixnation, and all is well.

Thank you FixNation for providing the educational materials, the traps and the low-cost/free fixing program. Life is so much better with fixed cats. :-)

They’re so patient and so kind! You don’t find a place more caring than Fixnation. Other places charge you and make it kinda difficult to help. But fixnation makes it convenient . So grateful for their services !

This place is AMAZING. They were patient as I bumbled my attempts to rescue some kittens (due mostly to me not knowing about FixNation until after I let the cats out into my bathroom).

Their services are so important in helping feral cat populations throughout the city. The TNR method not only stops breeding but they vaccinate and such too so that the cats do not spread illnesses.

I hope word keeps spreading about this wonderful group and people truly understand the importance of fixing animals to keep them out of overcrowded and underfunded shelters.

Henri is one of five homeless cats that I've had fixed thus far at FixNation. I was new to TNR the first time, but everyone at the clinic is a pro and they provided free training and loaned me a trap and gave me step by step instructions that were extremely detailed and helpful for a newbie trapper. (I learned, for example, that if all else fails, Kentucky Fried Chicken is practically irresistible trap bait for cats!) Everything went smoothly with the first cats I trapped, so much so that I was inspired to do more and have since gone on to become a passionate advocate for spay/neuter. FixNation was founded by cat lovers and everyone who works there or serves on its Board is genuinely dedicated to the clinic's mission. Because of FixNation, I am more motivated than ever to help make the world a better and more compassionate place for homeless cats. And my former feral Henri is doing great and is now in the process of transitioning into a pampered and much loved indoor cat.

I could not be more impressed by this clinic -- super organized, expertly and efficiently run, clean, friendly and compassionate staff and volunteers. It is very likely the the most well-run charity I have ever encountered, and that's coming from someone with a background in the nonprofit sector. I recently took in 3 community cats who live in my back garden and things could not have gone more smoothly. What a wonderful service they are providing the community and our furry feline friends. i plan to be a supporter henceforth in whatever way i can.

FixNation save my sanity!! I have been so stressful about the feral mom cat kept having babies for years, the neighbors constant complains, and my mom’s nonstop nagging, etc. Finally I took some time off from work and use fixnation free spray services for feral cats to fix the problem!! At first I was stressed and worried...all kind of what ifs went through my minds.. i was afraid the mom cat would get hurt or the baby would got trap in the process or wat if my mom went crazy and dont let me put the cat inside the house once it got trap, etc. Anyway...luckly FixNation has steps by steps dummy guide & procedures helping me to trap the cat to easy my worries and anxious abt the whole things. 1st I took their online course for 1 hr, and answered few questions after completion, then email them for appointment, to pick up the trap, then trap the cat, brought her inside...brought her in for surgery on the following day w/ appointment, then picked her up the same day!!! All done smoothly, it’s because people there are so helpful and their instructions are so clear!!! The hardest part for me was hearing the cat cried constantly nonstop at night, the mom cat crying inside the house, and the kitten (which i couldnt catch her yet) crying for her mom outside the house...really loud. People couldnt sleep straight for these 2 nights, I had to sit in the bathroom w/ her to make the mom cat quiet, I had little sleep too and lucky I didnt have to work on the wks. Finally day 3, afer the surgery and constant crying, the mom cat was released outside and reunion with her baby!!! The whole thing made me feel like a single mom with several babies and struggle to take care of them while working, lol. Its impossible for me to do so without organization like FixNation helps. I think im not gonna feed any additional feral cats again unless I have the house and time for it, or maybe when I retire. So much time, energy, effort, n responsibility, lol. I had made small tiny bit donation and I will make another donation later this year. Please support their great service for the love of cats!! Thank you FixNation!!!

I could not manage without Fixnation. We here in LA are so lucky to have this amazing free resource. It encourages me to to keep going, to trap for other people, to trap every week and try and make a difference for homeless cats. The staff are lovely and knowledgeable and helpful. I think I've taken in over 700 cats since they first opened. I mainly take ferals into Fixnation but whenever I have taken kittens off the street and tamed them, these also go in through Fixnation. Their prices are so reasonable for companion animals. Here are two that I trapped in hills full of coyotes and they got fixed, tested, microchipped etc at Fixnation and then my friend adopted them.

Before Fixnation I was trapping cats in my local neighbourhood and getting them fixed with my vet. I was paying for this myself and so was limited in the amount of TNR I could do. Also the cats were just getting fixed, they weren't having shots, being flea treated, de-wormed, given fluids or any of the extra treatment that Fixnation provides. I cannot thank Fixnation enough for what they do. I feel compelled to do more as a citizen, because they provide this wonderful service, I feel I should do more and I do. In 2010 I trapped 24 cats at one location. I recently handed over the paperwork to the homeowner - 80% of the cats were females and it hit home how much this one colony would have grown if it had not been for Fixnation. I cannot rate Fixnation highly enough and my trapping friends and I regularly say - "How did we ever manage before Fixnation".

I had been looking everywhere to get my male kitty neutered and was coming up empty-handed at every turn. So many places advertise free or low-cost services, but the fine print would tell a different story: only for feral cats, city residents only, no appointments available, etc, etc.
I was becoming frustrated in the fact that I wanted to do the right thing, but no one was making it easy to actually accomplish anything.

Then, simply by chance, I stumbled upon FixNation.

They answered my email promptly! They scheduled an appointment for my kitty to be neutered in one week! They provided all kinds of additional services (completely optional) at the time of drop-off! Their facilities were clean, organized, and filled with people who clearly cared about animal welfare. But the best part was that the surgery would only cost $40!!

I picked Mr. Socks up around 4:00 that same afternoon. While dispappointed about his missing accessories, he was in good spirits and seeemed to have come through like a champ. Thank you, FixNation! You made it easy for a single mom to afford to take care of her cat and her wallet at the same time!

P.S. While I was there, about 10 kittens were brought in by people who had trapped them in order to get them sterilized. This breaks my heart and reminds me how important it is to spread the word about responsible pet ownership. They all need homes. :(

It starts with one!

The single most lifesaving thing anyone can do to save cats AND kittens is spay/neuter. LA is home to an estimated 3 million stray and homeless cats, and a single female cat can have up to 3 litter per year, meaning 12-16 unwanted kittens.

If shelters had glass walls, everyone would be supporting spay/neuter, but in LA finding low cost and FREE services for stray and pet cats is an insurmountable challenge.

FixNation is the ONLY nonprofit in LA that will fix every cat that comes through it's doors in a trap for FREE. There are no restrictions, the kitties receive superior medical care, and the staff does a fantastic job at meeting the demand of people who travel sometimes hundreds of miles, just to take responsibility for homeless animals and make sure they're not adding to our already over crowded shelters and streets.

Do we need FixNation to expand, and open more locations to meet the demand, YES. High quality, free and low cost spay/neuter is real rescue and fixing cats directly impacts our shelters, neighborhoods by preventing kittens from being killed at a shelter, or a life on the street.

I sincerely hope you'll support FixNation and maybe someday instead of focusing solely on adoptions, we'll get to the root of the problem, save lives and become "FIX" Nation!

Back in early 2016, I noticed that our neighborhood started having random cats loitering the walls and yards. I've lived at my place for 20 years and that sight just broke my heart a little. Well, a lot.

I started googling. Reading. Asking around. Walked in to my local humane society and they were unphased. They blatantly said that they'll loan me a trap for a fee and I'll need to pay for all clinical services rendered. If I refuse, they'll end up putting down the cats that I bring in. Grrrrr~

Just as I was about to give up, I found an article about Fix Nation! I was glued to their informative site. Read it forward and backwards! Learned the true meaning of human compassion through the practice of trap-neuter-return. Immediately, I signed up for their TNR training course and voila, I was skipping out of their office with a trap, instructions, confidence, and most importantly, lots of hope and optimism for the feral kitties in my hood.

FN is truly one of its kind in LA County. It doesn't pretend to be sassy. It's practical. It's resourceful. And most of all, it's working! TNR works and there is still a long way to go to help share the success stories... even globally!

Thank you to the front end staff and all of the clinical teams that make this world a less cruel place for the cats on the streets. Fight on!

I brought my cat in when I noticed that she was in heat and all these other cats were coming around the house just stalking her; I felt like the father of a teenage girl. Haha. The crew at FixNation was very helpful, especially the two girls at the front and Mando the guy who helped me fill out the forms. They all took the time to explain the process to me as well as the things I needed to do to care for my cat after the surgery.

Now my cat is all good; check her out!

I don't know what I would do without FixNation. They have helped me help more than 50 cats over the years, and treat some of them for medical problems, all for no charge. They are an incredible asset to all of us in LosAngekes who care about homeless cats and want to end their suffering.

FixNation is my Hero. They helped me trap, neuter, and return a dozen feral cats which began with a starving and pregnant black cat whose recent capture brought us to a zero growth colony. FixNation's ultra-humane program and caring staff are exactly what nonprofit services should be. Thank you FixNation.
Here's the story:
My partner walked into the house nearly in tears for a bone-skinny black cat in the middle of the street munching on a tossed piece of pizza. I moved the street-treat to a safer location as she warily watched and then returned to it. We put out some nutritious food and she became a snarling, lurking, hissing, fang and claw baring denizen of our back yard. We enjoyed watching her thrive and resigned ourselves that she was not likely to become friendly. At least our feral freeloader never became friendly with us as she bore an annual litter for three years (4m + 3m1f + 3f). Each year, with the support of FixNation, we trapped, neutered, and returned the kittens but only this year with the innovation of a drop-trap did we capture Momma and achieve a Zero Growth Feral Colony.

We've enjoyed observing, learning, and writing about our feral felines. We have suffered loss as only one of the original litter of 4 males remains, Nanna, the one dedicated to Momma, not a wanderer like its mates. Two of the second litter, Tawny and BigBiff, are tame to touch and BigBiff enjoys brief cuddling. We lost Fluffy from the second litter this summer and Feisty, the Alpha wannabe, was run off by the other adults who are sometimes seen ambushing the outcast when he comes around. The final litter of three ring-tailed females is a story in progress. One, LilBiff is shaping to being touched while the other two, Grey1 and Grey2, have their mother's wariness. After being fixed two weeks ago, Momma is much more relaxed and it will be interesting to see if she remains small or gets larger. In all there is an intact, familial, feral colony of 7 healthy cats that cannot breed more. We and the community get to enjoy their charm, antics, and beauty. There's Momma, Nanna, BigBiff, Tawny, LilBiff, Grey1, Grey2 with Feisty around but no longer in the colony. With FixNation, we've stopped seven males and four females from breeding, littering, and multiplying into many times their number.

We also have two cats in the house who go into the yard at times to eat grass or lay in the sun. The grey one in the image is RT for ring-tail. She's 7 years old and staked her territory early with the first litter and Momma. The ferals give them their space as they do for the occasional interloping opossum or raccoon; however, low flying and crawling critters are food.

All of this is made possible because FixNation is part of my community.

I love cats and am not afraid to say it even though a cat gave me my first scar at the age of four and it is still brightly visible on my left hand just behind the index knuckle. My bad for reaching for a kitten in the nest on the third level hayloft of our barn.

I've been blessed with a few wonderful souls masquerading as cats over the years and now have two rescued house cats. Recently a black feral mother gave birth to four kittens under my house and then took up residence in my backyard. While searching how to manage the situation I found FixNation and decided to take a chance on them. I couldn't be happier.

Being a prior service U.S. Marine, I know engagement, professionalism, and efficiency when I encounter it and that description fits FixNation to a T. Skeptical at first, I found friendly and engaged people providing support with care and concern underlined by efficiency. That makes FixNation the hands-down best organization I have ever dealt with. FixNation is a clockwork operation doing exactly what it professes to do. I appreciate that and encourage their support.

I am so so grateful to have such a caring organization. I came across a feral that needed to be spayed asap for she was about 4 months old. The people that work there are so caring and very informative. They also have low cost services! I would definitely recommend.

We, my husband and I, love cats but we are only going to have so many in the house (rescued from the backyard)...

However, we still feed a community of about 14 in the yard - some that are there all the time and some that just come by for meals and to play. We have dog houses with heaters, blankets, climbing trees, toys - it is a virtual playground and home for them - and they are fun to watch...

Again, however - the colony was growing and enough is enough... so I found FixNation and thank goodness we did!

The organization is great - the procedure of watching the videos and going through the training prior to being able to pick up the traps is exactly what everyone should go through in order to be humane to the cats during what is probably a very traumatic experience for them (being caged, being away from their colony, having surgery, etc.).

They are professional, quick, thorough, friendly, and accommodating to your needs.

I donate money each other the times I have brought cats in - have trapped and fixed 8 now... and still a few more to do.

The cats all return to the colony and fit right back in... and actually seem to get along better than before because there is no competition now.

Highly recommend their services and their mission!

Words couldn't begin to describe the appreciation we have for FixNation. They have helped us spay/neuter up to 20 cats in our area! We love our neighborhood kitties and are able to provide food and love to the cats we do have thanks to FixNation helping us control the population. Communities everywhere would benefit so much from an organization like FixNation. I hope they are able to stick around forever!

FixNation is truly a gem of a non-profit organization. Thoroughly professional in all aspects of their timely communications, training of clients to help kitties in the most humane manner, and personal care and interest that they take with each human and feline. I am tremendously impressed with every contact that I have had with FixNation. I feel very capable of helping my kitty colony survive and remain healthy and with zero population growth. Please reach out and donate in anyway you can to sustain this wonderful organization. They will reward our nation with a needed service that helps individuals control the feral cat population by trapping, neutering and releasing. Thank you so much!
