FIUTS is a wonderful organization that connects people! My involvement started when I transferred into the UW as an international student one summer. Except for my sister, I didn't know anybody else in the area, and things are slow on campus during summer. I got connected with the organization and started volunteering as a facilitator right from the get-go. I made lots of friends (international and domestic alike) through this process and got great sense of accomplishment by helping other new students settle down in the new city. As a student leader, I have gained experience, skills and confidence through leading teams and coordinating events and activities, which proved greatly useful as I began my career. Because of all the great things that FIUTS has done for me, I continue to look for opportunities to give back. And just like karma, each time I do something to benefit FIUTS and other people, I get great joy and connections right back!
