Mission: To prepare elementary and middle school youth for success in high school and life by improving their academic performance and life skills; and engaging them and their parents in intensive, multi-year, and research-based out-of-school time and parental engagement programs.
Programs: The fishing schools(tfs) afterschool program improves studentsacademic performance, life skills and ability to attain personal goals. The program serves about 400 students in 5 schools across the district of columbia with continuous, long-term programming. It is an intensive academic platform for students from 1st to 5th grade and provides many unique features such as hands on, common core-aligned steam (science,technology,engineering,arts,and math) activities to help participants build reading, math, science and critical thinking skills. In addition, tfs infuses technology into all program components, highlighted by the use of i-ready, a web-based curriculum with customized academic tracks for students. Tfs also features life skills activities, college/career explorations, and enrichment clubs focused on athletics, art, and technology. Tfss parent engagement program, prepares parents and guardians to be active and engaged in their students academic development.
the fishing schools (tfs) summer camp is a free, intensive, high quality program in which participants receive support to build and maintain academic and social skills in an effort to prevent summer learning loss. Students participate in hands-on, engaging programming focusing on global cultures and communities, educating students about the world around them and their roles in it. Students are also engaged in college and career-based programming, co-curricular experiences, steam (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities, and reading and math support.
