I have met many veterans who have been helped by Fisher House when they have surgeries or other extensive VA appointments. Being able to have their spouse in some cases, and just providing lodging especially when the particular hospital is far from home. No doubt they do and will continue to do great things for vets.
This amazing organization was a true God-send when my husband, SFC (ret) Alan Hornaday, was very seriously injured by a suicide car bomber in Baghdad, Iraq during his deployment in support of OIF. We don't have the words to express our gratitude to the Fisher House Organization for giving us a place to stay (as well as provisions & resources!) during my husband's 22 month recovery at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio. FH not only gave us a 'home away from home,' but we made lifelong friendships with other wounded soldiers and their families who were there to recover, as well. Inge, Russ, all the wonderful volunteers, & our fellow FH residents will forever be our Fisher House family!!!
