Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Health, Health Support, Military & Veterans Organizations, Veterans
Mission: Our mission is to ensure that Veterans’ family members can be with their loved ones who are hospitalized by the VA in St. Louis. We accomplish this by raising money to build and then support ongoing needs of Fisher Houses in the area. We serve with the motto “because a family’s love is good medicine.”
Results: The VA Fisher House at Jefferson Barracks opened in 2010, and has served more than 13,750 guests and provided more than $11.5 million dollars in cost savings to those guests since then. For the families from out of town who want to be at the bedside of their hospitalized Veteran, few can afford extended stays in commercial lodging to do so. Yet, their love, care, support and presence are essential to the healing and recuperation process. Fisher Houses recognize this necessity with the motto “…because a family’s love is good medicine.” These families are able to stay in our Fisher House…AT NO CHARGE… for as long as their loved one is hospitalized.
Target demographics: Veterans' families
Geographic areas served: service to Veterans' families who live 50 miles or further from the St. Louis VA Hospital.
Programs: Collect funds fopr the construction, maintenance and operation of a fisher house.
