Mission: FishAmerica was created to provide a mechanism for citizens and industry to put something back into the fisheries resources that make their businesses profitable and their spare time so enjoyable. For more than 20 years, FishAmerica has funded active volunteer organizations to complete locally-driven fisheries enhancement projects. FishAmerica supports the following hands-on projects to enhance water quality and fish populations: Fish habitat improvement, reef projects, fish passages, stocking, youth pond construction, and hands-on education.
Programs: FishAmerica has several grant programs:1) Conservation: FishAmerica offers grants to restore fish habitat, enahcne fish populations, and improve water quality for freshwater fisheries. 2) Research: FishAmerica will offer grants for research projects that further the National Fish Habitat Plan. Please visit www.fishhabitat.org for more information of the plan. 3) Family Fishing Waters: FishAmerica seeks to create a fishing opportunity ?within a short bicycle ride of every child?. These projects restore or create family fishing opportunities in local communities. 4) Chesapeake Bay Watershed of Maryland: In partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, FishAmerica offers grants to non-profit organizations in Maryland for projects benefiting sportfish and their habitat in the Chesapeake Bay watershed of Maryland. Grants are offered each year and are announced via Request for Proposals.5) Marine and Anadromous Fish Habitat Restoration: FishAmerica, in partnership with the NOAA Restoration Center, awards grants to local communities and government agencies to restore habitat for marine and anadromous fish species. Successful proposals have community-based restoration efforts with outreach to the local communities.
