Mission: To encourage children of low & moderate income families to obtain higher education
Programs: First generation college bound (fgcb) fulfills its mission through three core and interrelated programs: (1) homework clubs- operated from low-income housing sites and staffed by certified teachers who provide homework club assistance and other academic support. (2) college access program- serves 11th and 12th graders at five participating school sites, the majority of which are located in prince george's county's revitalization areas and (3) college retention program- which maintains essential contact with fgcb participants and their families during students college tenures. This past academic year (2016-2017), fgcb recognized 27 students from kimberly gardens who participated in the homework clubs; provided college bound support services to 227 students of which 219 matriculated to college; and 28 students who graduated from college, including another 2 who graduated from graduate school. Fgcb has provided college retention services to 961 students currently enrolled in our college retention program. Since 1990, fgcb has 641 college graduates and is still counting!
