Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal Training, Animals

Mission: Fighting For Fido Inc is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located in NW Arkansas for the purpose of rescue, rehabilitation & placement of unwanted canines. We are also an animal advocacy group - educating pet owners in the responsibilities of proper nutrition, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping for identification, socialization, obedience/ behavioral training and more. The pets we take into "Fido" come from a variety of backgrounds. Sometimes they come from storm-stricken areas like south Texas where many owners are surrendering pets (following Hurricane Harvey) because they have had to uproot their lives and have found pet-friendly housing hard to obtain. Others come from shelters who are consistently over-capacity with abandoned/ unclaimed strays. By accepting these dogs into our care, many lives have been saved from unnecessary euthanasia. We help pets from all over the states of Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. We take in healthy pets, as well as blind, deaf, paralyzed, those needing dental extractions, surgery, and dogs with a variety of illnesses. We have given sanctuary to pets freed from puppy mills and hoarding situations, fostering adult dogs who have never felt anything but wire between their toes and the horror of being bred over and over like livestock and sold to the next breeder to start up his operation. Many go without any veterinary treatment and suffer eye disease, broken limbs, severe skin infections, heartworms, cancer, and nails grown around into the pads of their feet. We've watched these dogs wander onto soft grass for the first time, come to accept the touch of a kind hand without cowering, and eventually experience the joy of a family. Many pets come to us locally due to life changes that can't be helped. Often times it's because an owner has passed on or their health is failing. We receive dogs from those who have moved into permanent assisted living where they have strict rules about pets on the premises. Loss of jobs cause pets to be surrendered as future finances are uncertain. We have also had deployed military individuals and ex-pats approach us for help finding new homes for pets they can't take overseas.

Rescue organizations are a blessing and gift to our country. Three of my dogs are Fighting for Fido rescues and are precious souls. I’ll continue to rescue, foster and transport till the day I die. If you can’t adopt, please foster, if you can’t foster, volunteer.

We adopted our Benny from Fighting for Fido. We are not sure what his life was like before he was rescued, but one thing for sure he was one lucky dog to end up with Fighting for Fido. Mostly likely he was abused, but because of their care and Freda’s love and determination, he has a better life.

These wonderful people drove over and hour to visit our overcrowded shelter in Ft Smith, Ar. The volunteers were so friendly and obviously cared about helping us with the numerous issues our No Kill shelter faces due to no spay/neuter laws and lack of education in our community. They even rescued a dog from our shelter and took it back to NW Ar to be fostered and find a loving home. These people care about the well being of all animals and are truly an asset to the rescue community!

If it weren’t for Fighting for Fido, Willy wouldn’t be here today. Willy suffered a spinal injury causing immobility in his back legs. He also had a fear aggressive disposition. He was minutes away from euthanasia when Fighting For Fido stepped in and saved his life. After several months of rehabilitation, Willy was not only walking with his backs legs, he was running. He also learned to love and trust again because of Fighting for Fido. We are so thankful to Fighting for Fido for saving our Willy and can’t imagine our lives without him!

I began as a volunteer, became a foster parent, and then a foster failure- adopting two of my fosters,

Yes, dogs are also my passion and keeping them safe, healthy and taking them to new homes is Fighting for Fido's passion and heart.

I have one of the Texas rescues who is a senior and deaf and is now happy and healthy because of Fighting for Fido, their foster system, and final placement.

My second rescue is an eighteen month old border collie mix born with a hole in her heart. Fighting for Fido provided medical evaluation and treatment so she can become all she can be until the heart wears down.

Fighting for Fido provides a chance for their rescues to be loved and rehomed to become all they can be and for their new parents to be the best they can be for their dogs.

I adopted a shelter dog in 2014 and, with Phenomadog’s help, groomed him into the wonderful therapy dog that he is. I knew nothing about therapy dogs except I wanted one... and Freda King took me under her wind and taught me the ropes. I will be forever greatful. About a year later I adopted a dog through Phenomadog. He had been a stray and was roaming the streets of town. They took him in, posted him on all of the list Dog websites, but he wasn’t claimed. So one day Freda introduced us and it was love at first sight. So I have now groomed my second dog into being a therapy dog and both of my dogs are very happy doing the work they do during the day and sharing each other’s company at night.

I have seen Fighting for Fido take in dogs from near and far. They seek out dogs who need them and spent Labor Day 2017 traveling to Houston in the aftermath of hurricane Harvey to bring dogs back from overcrowded shelters. They are the real deal.

The team at F4F are some of the most caring and dedicated people I have the privilege to know. Their integrity & dignity is awe inspiring. I adopted my angel Ziggy from F4F and he is a source of never ending joy. The attention to detail shown by the team during the adoption process was outstanding.

We have been working with Fighting for Fido for many months now. We presently have 2 foster dogs through them :) Our experience has been fantastic. They answer questions and concerns in a timely manner. They even help us with our other 2 dogs - behavior and health related. One of our dogs was adopted through Phenomadog.
Their love and respect for rescues and and all dogs is absolute love and concern. They don't give up !!
Adoptions are made through applications that are verified. Their goal is to place a pet with their forever homes. This takes time and effort and done on the behalf of the dogs and families involved.
My husband and I stay involved in adoption events and any other means we are able to. The staff welcomes our help and we get excited with upcoming events.
Thank you Fighting for Fido for making a difference in the lives of otherwise helpless, homeless dogs

We have recently started fostering for this organization. I cannot say enough about what they do for these sweet babies looking for fosters and homes. The amount of time and compassion that goes into this program is immeasurable. I am proud to be a part of something so wonderful in Northwest Arkansas. Every dog needs a chance, and I truly believe in their vision and mission.

Such an amazing organization ran by some truly awesome ladies! Deonne and friends thank you for all you do!!

Deonne has helped take in a couple of abandoned dogs left behind by their owners. Not only did Phenom-a-dog help by taking them in but also ensured they got nothing but the best of homes!

My family had been without a dog for close to 3 years, when my neighbor told us of dogs available for adoption through Fighting for Fido. Their animals are very clean, well kept, and our adopted dog, Buddy, already knew basic commands because of their time and commitment. Very clean establishment with the animals' welfare as a top priority!
