Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Fetching Tails Foundation is an 501c3 Illinois based non-breed specific rescue committed to saving dogs regardless of breed, age, and physical ability. Our foundation is committed to lowering euthanasia rates by rescuing adoptable dogs from high kill-shelters and other animal intake facilities. We then work at placing them in approved adopted homes. Our foundation has rescued over 2800 dogs from shelters and into our program. We promote the responsible rehoming of local homeless dogs. FTF follows through with steps in the adoption process and takes time to consider the needs of both the family and the dog. There are no wrong animals, just wrong fits, and FTF will take as much time as is needed in order to understand what would make a good fit between a dog and adopter.

I recently adopted a furry friend through Fetching Tails Foundation, and I couldn't be happier with the entire experience. From the moment I stepped into their facility, I felt the warmth and dedication of their staff towards finding loving homes for animals in need. The adoption process was smooth and efficient, and the staff took the time to match me with the perfect pet for my lifestyle and preferences.

Not only did I find a wonderful companion, but I also had the opportunity to support a fantastic organization dedicated to animal welfare. The care and attention given to each animal at Fetching Tails Foundation is truly commendable, and it's evident that they go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of their animals.

If you're considering adopting a pet, I highly recommend visiting this Foundation. You'll not only find a lifelong companion but also support a worthy cause. Thank you, Fetching Tails Foundation, for the amazing work you do!

I wanted to share our experience in hopes that it will urge the rescue to change their practices, as well as provide some insight to families with kids and existing pets. We applied for one of the pups, who checked every single box for the type of dog we were looking for, on a Sunday. We heard back on Tuesday letting us know they were reviewing our application. On Wednesday, there was a Facebook post advertising the dog we applied for. We thought it was odd, but after we received a message asking whether we wanted to meet the dog on Saturday, I let it go.

We drove to Wood Dale (about 45 minutes one way) on Saturday afternoon with our child and senior dog. We spent 30-45 minutes visiting with the dog, as well as asking the fosters a multitude of questions.

From the minute we walked in, we felt like Kristina was annoyed with the fact that she had to conduct this meet and greet, but we let it go because our focus was ensuring that this pup was the right one for our family, as well as the right fit for our existing dog. After 30-45 minutes at the site, and not a single question for us, I let Kristina know that we like the dog, to which she told me that the dog had multiple other meet and greets, and the dog would be ultimately deciding its owner. She then told me to not be upset if we don't get picked.

I was flabbergasted at the fact that it was never disclosed to me that there were in fact other applications, and we were not the only meet and greet. Had that been the case, I would have never included my family in this multi- event elimination that this rescue seems to be doing with their adoptions. We left, and not only did I have a stressed out senior dog, but I had to spend the car ride consoling my child, who was confused as to why the dog wasn't going to be coming home with us.

We didn't receive the final rejection until 3 days later, and I provided this feedback to the rescue, but received no response. There are so many amazing rescues out there. DO NOT choose this one unless you're open for competing with people you've never met, and being judged against unknown criteria.

I have been a FTF foster for the past two years, and fostering with FTF continues to be a great experience. The dogs and what is best for them is always the first and highest priority. The leadership is very supportive. I love that as the foster, I am empowered to have a say in helping to find my foster dogs their furever home. I am so glad that I found this group to work with, and am always looking forward to my next foster adventure..

I volunteer with Fetching Tails because…puppies! I admire the partnership that FTF has with Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi in helping to save tiny lives where it’s so desperately needed. I enjoy seeing the joy that puppies bring to their forever homes, whether I’m fostering a puppy or processing adoption applications!

We started fostering with Fetching Tails in March of 2020. Our first foster was heartworm positive and had several behavioral issues. Fetching Tails worked with us to help our dog get the healthcare he needed and the training for his behavioral issues. After 3 months he found the perfect home and we were hooked! We have fostered over 70 dogs and puppies in the last two years and adopted one of our foster pups in 2021. Fetching Tails allows the fosters to review and select the potential forever homes. The adoption process makes me confident that I am putting my foster into the best possible home, and I have made some new friends in the process!

FTF helps so many dogs not only locally but throughout the US from areas that unlike Chicago have less access to rescues and resources. They help all kinds of dogs regardless of age, breed, size, personality, etc. find their loving, forever homes no matter how long it takes.

My favorite part of rescue is fostering. I have fostered around 70 dogs and love seeing them from start to finish in their forever home.

I have also foster failed one of my dogs named Mandy. She kept getting passed around and returned. We decided to make her part of our family.

I also am a board member and have many other responsibilities within the rescue. But I love how our team shows so much compassion for not only the dogs but people as well.

Fetching Tails makes every decision about every single dog they rescue, like their own personal pet. Every dog gets the best medical treatment as needed and goes above & beyond from start to finish.

I am a proud board member, fostered many dogs, and foster failed one!

I absolutely love volunteering for FTF , getting to spend time with all the different breeds and sizes of these dogs is beyond amazing! It’s been a fantastic experience that I look forward to being a part of for many years to come! It’s a very caring family and the dogs that come through are very lucky as we all are to be a part of this foundation!

I have volunteered for FTF for four years and am so lucky to work with such a great group of people! We all really care about the dogs in our care, and want to ensure we find the perfect and best fit homes for our dogs and applicants! I also adopted my 100 lb. mutt from FTF and we love him so much!

We adopted a sweet shitzu mix from FTF back in Dec 2019, we are so grateful of FTF saving this dog from CACC. Her foster was honest and kind. Would definitely adopt from this rescue again!

We lost our senior German shepherd in December of 2019. We had him for 14 years, and he was the perfect boy. He was 130lbs of love. He was so patient, and he helped our other two dogs learn house manners, and showed them the ropes. After his passing, we knew we wanted to add a third dog, but no pups seemed to be the right fit with our grumpy cattle dog. We looked for over a year at multiple dogs through many rescues. In December of 2020, a beautiful Great Pyrenees mix came to Fetching Tails Foundation, and surprise, she was pregnant with 8 babies! She was fostered by a close friend of ours, and we were able to meet and help care for the puppies at 2 days old! We fell in love with a little "cow" named Mahomes. We took him home to foster, along with his sister Shuffle, and as soon as he arrived we knew he was never leaving. He had a wonderful temperament, and he got along perfectly with our "difficult" boy, as well as our sweet and gentle pittie mix. Mahomes (now Remington) is one of the best puppies I have ever encountered, and we couldn't imagine our lives without him in it. He's currently 1 year 2 months old, and pushing 110 pounds, and we're so excited to have a "giant boy" back in our lives.
