Mission: Ferre institute, inc. Is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and expansion of infertility services and quality services in genetics and reproductive health. It promotes the health of individuals and families by providing information and education about genetics, infertility, environmental exposures and family history, and integrating advances in these areas into personal health management. It was founded in 1974 to offer training in infertility, adoption and medical genetics. It provides information to the public through community lectures and resources on several educational websites. Additionaly, informational videos are made available for the deaf community. Many of the websites invite the public to email questions to program staff for additional information, referral or guidance. Programs: Infertility education program - formal measures of infertility are estimated to affect 1 in 6 couples and 12% of u. S. Women, based on reports among married individuals (national family growth survey). This project provides a variety of services to the public and professionals about medical and psychosocial aspects of infertility. Educational resources (brochures and fact sheets) developed over many years are available on www. Infertilityeducation. Org. The goal of the educational programs is to promote early identification of risk factors and to provide age and culturally appropriate information. In-agency workshops are available. Educational videos are available for the deaf community. Monthly newsletters are made available for families. The educational program considers treatment and family building options (adoption and foster care). Special initiatives include families of color project that aims to raise awareness about the hidden problem of infertility in communities of color. Educational videos for the deaf community use asl signers. The videos are accessed through the website. Program websites have almost 9,000 to 10,000 unique users who actively search available information resulting in 89,000 hits. Social medica stategies have been active such as facebook.

In this last period 750 new families were referred and 650 families were seen. Twenty educational programs were provide to the public and professionals.

Some 160,000 babies are still being affected by birth defects each year in the united states. This program receives many calls on their toll free number across nys and their doctors who seek evidence based risk information about medication exposures and/or when maternal health requires ongoing treatment in pregnancy. This program reviews approximately 1000 exposures a year for women and their health providers.
