Mission: For 45 years, fcdc improved the economic and social well-being of low- and moderate-income residents by providing affordable housing, social support services, workforce development, education, and civic engagement programs.
Programs: In 2017, our wholly-owned rental properties include: 15-25 hemenway housing which is a 24 unit mixed income housing development; fenway apartments, llc which comprises 22 units of affordable housing; and burbank gardens acquisition, llc which was acquired in 2017 and includes 52 units of affordable housing undergoing an occupied rehab in 2018. Additionally, through our housing development and asset management programs, fenway cdc controls another five affordable housing properties and is actively pursuing opportunities to preserve existing and build new affordable housing as described in schedule o under other program services.
community planning & organizing - in 2017, fcdc worked with residents, non-profits, and city officials to recommend improvements in the city's housing policy. Our efforts addressed the challenges of short-term rentals and the need for affordable housing to stabilize the lives of low- and moderate-income residents. Resident leaders monitored the developments of private developers, hospitals, and universities and shared comments at community meetings to mitigate any negative development impact on the residential area. Fcdc also educated residents about homeless prevention and tenants rights.
resident services and workforce development - since 1994, fcdc has offered counseling, case management, workshops, and social support services to help low- and moderate-income residents of fenway and other boston neighborhoods. In 2017, our programs continued to help them reduce poverty, become financially self-sufficient, and live healthier. We helped clients obtain education and career credentials, job skills training and placements, adult education, and advance their careers. Our financial education promoted positive behaviors to help residents build financial stability. Our health programs, career fairs, and community events improved lives.
