There are many residents who are unable to avail themselves of this great program. There are the elderly, the disabled and the working class who all are in need of food. Stephen Carpenter and myself(Ray Embree) have the: MOBILE-MOBILITY-MISSION to provide this service to these people in need. Due to the generosity of some sponsors as well as the generosity of your great driver, Peter Pozo, we have been able to begin our program.

Mission: The food bank for westchester's mission is to lead, engage and educate westchester county in creating a hunger free environment.
Programs: The emergency food distribution program - this is the core program of the food bank for westchester, it provides over 95 percent of the food distributed by it's 265 front line hunger relief programs to some of the 200,000 westchester residents who are hungry or at risk of hunger. This program is made up of the following activities: collection, warehousing and distribution of food to member programs to be given out as cooked meals or bags of groceries to hungry westchester residents. Mobile food pantry - a program which utilizes a beverage-style truck with refrigeration and freezer units to distribute a variety of nutritious foods at an agreed-upon site. Senior grocery - produce distribution with specific focus on seniors. Neighborhood food express - mass distribution of produce at 6 westchester locations. Retail recovery program-collects fresh food from local supermarkets and retailers that would have otherwise gone to waste. Project green thumb - weekly distribution of up to 1,275 bags of produce consisting of 4 vegetables and 2 fruits, with enough produce for a family of four for 3-5 days. Food growing program - at various institutional sites instructs in sustainable agriculture and harvests the fresh food for distribution to hungry westchester residents. In the fiscal year ended june 30, 2015 the food bank for westchester distributed over 7. 6 million pounds of food.
backpack program - the purpose of the backpack program is to provide nutritious food/snacks to children at risk of hunger to use over the weekend or during school vacations. The food bank for westchester currently conducts the program monthly at 55 sites in westchester, serving up to 2,900 children. Snap (food stamp outreach)- focuses specifically on spanish speaking individuals, seniors and the home bound. Assisting with the food stamp application and advocacy on behalf of the client. Adopt-a-pantry - provides lines of credit to members for food acquisition. Kids cafe - provides hot after school meals and teaches nutrition and simple food preparation.
