Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries
Mission: Feeding Northeast Florida helps local children and families, seniors and active and retired military members who struggle to put food on the table. Working with local grocery stores, manufacturers, and farms we rescue high-quality food that would otherwise be wasted and transform it into meals for those in need. By connecting millions of pounds of rescued food to a network of more than 150 social service agencies and programs like City Rescue Mission, The Sulzbacher Center and The Salvation Army, these hunger-relief partners are not only able to provide food to those in need, but services that can help these families and individuals end the cycle of poverty - including job training or placement, low-cost childcare, SNAP benefits, medical care, affordable housing and counseling. In 2018, Feeding Northeast Florida provided more than 14.1 million meals to our network of social service agencies in eight counties throughout Northeast Florida. Feeding Northeast Florida is Your Community Food Bank. With your help and support, we can make sure one of the most basic needs shared by all of us is met every day.
Target demographics: Collect and distribute food and other goods to our 150 partner agencies.
Direct beneficiaries per year: By providing food for 14.1 million meals to the food insecure in eight counties of Northeast Florida.
Geographic areas served: Eight counties -- Duval, St. Johns, Nassau, Putnam, Baker, Flagler, Bradford and Clay -- in Northeast Florida.
Programs: General food distribution: Collection, warehousing, and distribution of product from local and national food industry donors, community food drives, and purchases to non-profit partner agencies. The majority of the food is provided to partner agencies at no cost and the remainder of the food is provided for pennies on the pound. The partner agencies then distribute the food to people in need at no cost. Grocery retail program: A food rescue program where our team as well as our designated partner agencies pick up nutritious, perishable and non-perishable food products from over 195 participating retail grocery stores throughout Northeast Florida. The food is then inspected for quality and safety. Once the products are approved, they are distributed either at no-cost, or at a very minimal cost to more than 150 food pantries, schools, and feeding sites across a 17-county service area. Mobile pantries and satellite food distribution centers: Our fast, fresh and free mobile pantries are capable of delivering 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of dairy, deli, bakery, meat & locally-grown produce distributed by trained, compassionate partners at various host sites where we can directly serve hungry people in need. Our hubs, or satellite food distribution centers expand our site-based distributions, moving from a centralized warehouse facility to food distribution hubs located in the counties we serve.
