Mission: The mission of federal defenders of western north carolina, inc. Is to provide high quality representation to indigent defendants. In achieving this mission, this program will endeavor to: (1) provide the highest quality legal representation; (2) advance the effectiveness of the legal system through excellence in legal scholarship and through ongoing education and training of the criminal defense bar and the community; (3) foster and promote high standards and ideals engendered by the bill of rights and the criminal justice act; and (4) see that justice is administered on a fair and equal basis.
Programs: The entity is organized to administer, in and for the court, a federal defender program for indigents in accordance with the criminal justice act of 1964. The organization's activities consist of providing and administering staff attorneys and appointed private counsel to provide legal services to indigents who may have been charged or may be charged with criminal offenses.
