A referral was given to me by a volunteer at the Dometic Violence Clinic at 555 W Harrison, Courthouse for Domestic Violence Victims and Respondents. When I contacted Family Rescue I was literally sitting in the place where one would seek refuge from a situation of imminent danger. The responder on the phone asked me what service I needed, however when I reponded that I needed shelter for myself and my five yr. old daughter. I recanted the incidences of three attacks I expericenced. I was told I did not pass the test of Domestic Violence Victim.I asked why. The responder put the phone down and at that time I heard her say, "This girl aint listening..." as she beckoned another women to take over the call. The next women asked me what is my plan. I asked if I was speaking to a women, I asked this because it was difficult to understand why the female voice was not understanding of my cause for calling the shelter. I told the woman my goal. This reponder told me next, "you have not told me a patttern of coersive abuse." She then told me she would not be able to be of service. She closed the call before giving any alternate options for immediate shelter. I cried for until I was able to clear my tears to leave.
