Mission: Family House is a home away from home, where families and extended families can stay for days, weeks, or months free of charge, while their children receive care from the internationally acclaimed pediatric UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
Family House, Inc. was founded in 1981 through the efforts of parents, doctors, nurses and volunteers to provide nearby, temporary housing for families with children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Target demographics: families of children being treated for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses
Direct beneficiaries per year: 250 people per night (80 families), 4,000 families per year.
Geographic areas served: San Francisco
Programs: free-temporary housing for families traveling more than 50 miles for treatment at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Our "home away from home is just blocks from UCSF, and has living rooms, kitchens, playrooms, and laundry facilities, just like you have at home.
