I have been a part of FHSN for almost 5 years now and I am so grateful for the work that they do for kids in care. It’s my joy to get to partner with them as we change the trajectory of kids’ lives. They truly care about the kids in their agency and make it their goal to have the kids feel special. Thank you FHSN!

I have been a volunteer reading tutor for some of the “at risk” middle school students participating in the wonderful BRAFF Program, an absolutely invaluable after school program. The principals of this program, from the CEO, Program Directors & Administrators are extremely dedicated & work tirelessly to provide a unique & positive experience for the program’s group of male & female youth that focuses on building self-esteem, and additionally in taking pride in cultural achievements & history of culture; coaches good citizenship with elders & peers; builds trust in adult leadership by fostering open & caring communication with their Program Directors & elder volunteers; emphasizes academic achievement at school & stresses the need to obtain higher education; exposes the kids to people & places they would not otherwise likely experience ; teaches responsibility & nutrition in the home as kids participate in supervised preparation of meals they prepare & share as a group & then clean up, fostering unity & teamwork among peers.
The kids make a big commitment to complete the BRAFF program as it requires many hours of their after school time, on multiple days of the week, and culminates in a meaningful graduation ceremony where the kids recite a (very difficult to commit to memory ) oral pledge to their family & community friends. This event is celebrated at a special evening event with food & live entertainment, & includes montage video presentation, & individual recognition of each student receiving their certificates of achievement. The Culmination evening is followed by a graduation trip with their “BRAFF friends” & principals of the program.
When I first started tutoring, the trips were to Washington DC, with kids & principals of BRAFF. However, providing & raising the funds for the Graduation Event, as well as for the caliber of trip to our nation’s Capitol has consistently been a daunting challenge year after year, & in spite of fund raising efforts by staff & kids, unfortunately, in recent years, I have seen the need for change in destination due to lack of available funds.
The kids I tutor are so appreciative, kind & receptive for any extra help I can provide; express their appreciation to me & their personal desire to improve their reading skills which they know is adversely affecting many aspects of their school & social lives.
It is joyful to see them smile, when they see they have improved their reading skills; much more joyful to see how the kids “transform & thrive” by end of their BRAFF program experience. I have personally been at a Holiday event, when high school graduates upon seeing CEO, Sandra Austin, few years after having completed BRAFF program, give her a big hug & express to
her whatever was happening around them ..“they knew Mama Sandra always had them.” .. says it all; the BRAFF experience was an instrumental, positive & “safe” part of their young development.
There aren’t enough stars to rate this program.
Getting to know the principals of BRAFF , meeting, working & getting to know all of them & “the new kids” each semester, is an absolute blessing in my life that I cherish & I am proud to be associated with BRAFF as a volunteer, contributing in my small way to this outstanding program.

This program is amazing!! Before I joined I didn't know anything about my ancestors and history. Everyday we would learn something new and build relationships with our sisterhood that last forever! We were able to gain points by cleaning up the branch house, completing homework and coming in our uniform shirt. These points were used for outings. Before covis cut our time short we went to six flags, musical plays, ice skating, museums, and so much more. This program is extremely accessible and beneficial for the entire family. I really loved my time there and super grateful to have been included.

My spouse and I had been thinking about becoming foster parents for quite a few years, but unfortunately had we had been discriminated against by several agencies because we are a gay couple. We had almost given up on our desire to become volunteer Resource Parents, when by chance I came across the Family Health Support Network website. Something moved me to reach out to FHSN. It was an amazing interview conversation - welcoming, professional, and genuinely down-to-earth. I knew immediately that this was the foster care agency that we had been seeking. Now a year later, we are three months into our first child placement. If it truly takes a village to raise a child, the Family Health Support Network is our "village". The parenting training, all-round support, and subject-matter expertise provided by FHSN staff members to produce competent and caring Resource Parents to provide for kids in need of a safe and stable environment are incredible. Thank you Family Health!

Family Health & Support Network, Inc. is an amazing nonprofit. For almost a year I have had the pleasure of providing my out reach services to FHSN and it has absolutely been rewarding to be apart of the FHSN mission! I have personally witness how FHSN builds resilience and provide loving homes to at risk families they have and are currently serving. Most take for granted the opportunities they have in life and don't realize the needs of others through out their communities and forget to reach back to pull others up to help children and families in need of support as a result of trauma, financial difficulties, educational challenges, displacement and or mental health issues. Family Health & Support Network, Inc. is a very professional nonprofit full of love and support for the community.

I had the opportunity to work with Family Health & Support Network as a volunteer and it was an amazing unforgettable experience. I was blown away by the organizations professionalism and overall care for the youth and families. Having worked with multiple non profit organizations in California and Nevada areas, this organization is by far the best. The hardwork and dedication they put in to the organization is undeniable. Working closely with the youth building a personal relationship and educating them in all aspects of life. It was a good feeling to be around such motivated youth on the trip to Washington D.C where we visited Historical Monuments, zip lined through national parks, experienced educational tours and gave the youth a glimpse into their future by touring Howard University. This organization helps our youth to see their future and to give them a reason to overcome their battles and struggles. It gives our future hope. I am happy to be have had such a great experience. I look forward to continuing to work with this non profit and see the success of the programs grow each year!

Family Health & Support Network, Inc ihas wondeful programs that help many high risk children in foster care as well as underserved children and families. The things they teach and instill in these childen will help mold them into highly ambitious members of the community. The parenting classes that they offer are amazing, they help parents better their parenting skills which betters the relationship between the patents and children. Family Health & Support Network is a great organization who roll their sleeves up in order to live up to their name. They haven't just talked the talk, but they have walked the walk. I have been affiliated with them by supporting their fundraising activities and family functions that include not only children, and not only adults, but the whole family. They are a support mechanism for our children, teens , and adults, and this is evidenced in the relationship between their staff, no matter what color, race, or creed. There is a saying, " It takes a village to raise a child." Family Support & Health Network is having their share of not only helping to raise our children, but teaching them, and exposing them to GREAT experiences in life that wil encourage them to succeed in school and college or even as an entrepreneur. They have proved that family support is they key to a happy and healthy life and have open their dooors with the mission to extend their love and support to every individual or family who walks thru their door, embracing ALL as part of their family. YOU ARE WONDERFUL Family Support and Health Network, and on TOP in my book!

I became acquainted with Family Health & Support network, Inc over a year ago and was very impressed with the level of care and devotion the organization has comitted to insuring that the needs of children in foster care are being met. I have over twenty years experience working in the foster care system at various levels as a social worker. I have observed that FHSN goes beyond the call of duty in providing services and support to children in foster care, certified foster parents, and the families of children in foster care. FHSN is an excellent advocate for the children; they recruit the most caring and interested foster parents, and they secure any and all necessary services for the children and their families.

Family Health & Support Network, Inc. holds true to the philosophy of "Every Child Deserves to be Loved"! This organization has proven that they care not only about the children served but also their families. The entire staff at FHSN consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to demonstrate concern for the well-being of displaced children. It's not often that you find a progressive, non-judgmental social service organization due to the nature of the business. So, kudos to FHSN for "getting it" and choosing to make a positive impression in the lives of the children and families that we all serve in some capacity. Congratulations on a job well done!

Going the EXTRA MILE! Family Health & Support Network, Inc. (FHSN) provides safe and loving homes for children placed in foster care. Additionally, the agency continues to go the extra mile to assure their children while in their care, are able obtain Life Skills to assure a successful emancipation out of the foster care system.
While the State of California enforced multiple budget cuts, FHSN continues to empower their children through theFHSN “Children’s Fund” Charity events. Children ages (0-18) and especially teenagers are placed in their care. FHSN Children’s Fund allows teenagers a unique opportunity to participate in their own growth and be able to express themselves in fun and creative ways. “Teen-Action” is the umbrella of several teen-focused initiatives including education, communication and reciprocity. “Teenage Girls ROCK! Rites of Passage are programs where teens participate in interactive workshops, seminars, and webinars. They all provide a fun, creative forum for children to unite, be creative, share common stories, and learn the appropriate tools necessary for a healthy future! FHSN remains in tune with the pulse of issues in the community and workshop series by specifically addressing the very sobering subjects of teenage bullying, suicide, obesity, and substance abuse/addiction. This agency is “bar-none” one of the most caring and supportive foster agency existing. FHSN opens the window to a whole new world of opportunities for these kids.
