Two former members of my church, Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian Church of Durham, introduced me to Family Health Ministries about five years ago. I have met the local Durham office staff, attended fundraisers and heard directly from children and volunteers about the program and results in Haiti. I look forward to the annual report every year, and am very impressed with the progress of the ministry and its impact. I would recommend this organization as among the best in terms of the value of a donation- it really does directly help Haitians, including Haitian workers as well as Haitian families. Thank you, FHM board and staff, for all you do!

The church where I work, Westminster Presbyterian, partners with Family Health Ministries to do medical mission work in Haiti. I would not send a team of church members to Haiti unless I had total confidence in our partner, and with FHM I definitely do. They are doing amazing things in Haiti in the field of cervical cancer prevention and other much needed health care. It is a well run organization with a big heart for Haiti!

I am increasingly impressed with FHM's commitment to serve and support the Haitian community with respect and attentiveness to what they, Haitian community, deems most important. The work they have done over the last 20 years is amazing. Keep up the good work!

I went on a mission trip with this group. I have seen the things they are trying to help accomplish in Haiti. They are helping the communities to have better medical care, better education and are empowering the people of Haiti to be able to help themselves. They are doing wonderful things and helping to change lives...... Including mine.

I have really enjoyed volunteering at FHM. I interned with them last summer and am now interning with them again, and have loved every minute of it. The people who make up this non-profit are so passionate and dedicated to the cause of bringing better and more healthcare to the people of Haiti and allowing it all to be Haitian led in building their efforts - that has been the most incredible part about this non-profit. It's inspiring to see and incredible to be a part of.

Getting the opportunity to do medical mission work with FHM was absolutely life-changing. The people of Haiti are so gracious and appreciative and it was a humbling experience to be able to give back in a way that I'd never gotten to before. The organization is so multi-faceted and dynamic, with work going on in multiple places across the country. It really made me appreciate the amount of time that had gone into relationship-building, being attuned to what people needed and really working to meet those needs. It was also incredible how the organization was incorporating the Haitian population into the process of making change for the better in Haiti, really giving the people a level of ownership in what was happening. I really enjoyed my time there and I cannot wait to go back with FHM.

I became a volunteer at Family Health Ministries starting in August 2014. This non-profit organization strives to accomplish its mission of supporting Haitian families by offering both children's programs and women's programs. I have had the opportunity to contribute my time in the Durham, NC office weekly and learn about this organization's efforts toward cervical cancer prevention.

I have worked with Family Health Ministries for about 10 years - first as a consultant and now as a board member. I have also taught class with David Walmer about health disparities at Duke. Family Health Ministries has worked with the Haitian people for 20 years - long before it was popular to do so because the non-profit wants to help make the people of Haiti have a better life. They have helped to build schools and clinics and have provided service and education to the Haitian people. They ask for nothing in return. They are the epitome of what non-profits should aspire to be.

I became involved with FHM almost 4 years ago when I facilitated a retreat for their board. I was taken with their energy and how invested everyone was in the mission. I had been looking for a non-profit that I could get excited about giving back to. I had no idea that I would be given to far more than I could ever give in return. In the poorest place in the western hemisphere, I found God everywhere. Quite literally, the experiences I have had with Family Health Ministries has transformed my life. It truly is amazing what a small group of committed individuals is capable of and the many lives that can be touched.

I began working with FHM as a volunteer in 2005 and have continued to work with them in a missions and research capacity until joining the board in 2012. The relationships FHM has cultivated has allowed us to understand our partners and the communities in which we work in Haiti and has allowed us to establish a track record of success. As a last note, we have a great variety of ways to get involved if you are interested!

I have been traveling to Haiti for 11 years with Family Health Ministries to work with children in Vacation Bible School. In that time I have observed firsthand how donations are used to provide medical care for children and moms, to make significant improvements in care for women with cervical cancer, and to address the nutritional and educational needs of children in the mountain community of Fondwa. At each step of development Family Health Ministries has listened to the expressed needs of the communities in which they work, and partnered with the Haitians working in those communities. My life has been changed by my experiences with the Haitians I have learned to respect and love.

I first met FHM's founders Kathy and David Walmer more than 10 years ago. Their story of how the people of Haiti captured their hearts and changed their lives has had a big impact on my own life. I deeply respect their approach--build long term relationships with your partners and listen to them before you move forward. They are the model of a grass-roots, community and family centered non-profit and their impact in communities across Haiti continues to grow each year. I have had the chance to visit their project sties and came away even more impressed.

David and Kathy Walmer's "above self" actions are making a difference with not only those in dire medical needs, but through welcoming and opening up the channells for productive and rewarding volunteer work.
