Mission: The family abuse shelter of miami county inc. Assists victims of domestic violence and homelessness with emergency shelter and supportive services that promote self reliance, dignity and safety.
Programs: Shelter operations: emergency shelter services are made available to anyone in need of help due to domestic violence or homelessness. During 2016, the family abuse shelter of miami county, inc. Assisted 463 unduplicated people, consisting of men, women and children with a total of 10,752 bed nights. All persons sheltered were also provided with case management and supportive services to help them obtain employment and housing.
legal advocacy: throughout 2016, the family abuse shelter of miami county, inc. Provided advocacy services for victims of domestic violence. Two full time court advocates assisted victims as they moved through the criminal justice system. During 2016, 879 victims of domestic violence were assisted through this program. Outreach and public education were also conducted throughout the entire year for victims of domestic violence and homelessness. Support groups, parenting classes and anger/management were offered to educate the community about services available and to help reduce violence.
homeless prevention & rehousing, outreach: during 2016, the family abuse shelter of miami county, inc. Assisted 272 individuals experiencing homelessness with help obtaining permanent housing. Family abuse shelter of miami county, inc. Conducts outreach activities throughout the year to reach individuals in need of housing assistance. Homeless prevention and rehousing activities include providing emergency financial assistance and case management to help homeless families and inviduals remove barriers they face towards obtaining housing and to increasing their ongoing stability and self-suficiency.
