My son wanted to do a tree-planting for a community service project, and a quick online search brought up Fairfax ReLeaf. In the fall, we attended a training session, where we were educated about the importance of trees, and led through a hands-on planting session, where we learned proper planting technique. This was a very satisfying project, and we were very happy to be getting on-the-ground experience with such friendly and FREE oversight! Several months later, my son had his own planting project on the grounds of our religious institution; Fairfax ReLeaf provided the seedlings, tools, other materials, and an experienced volunteer to help at the project site. The process was easy and fun and so rewarding, and we all felt like we did something tangible to make our community better. The fact that the staff at Fairfax Releaf were so forthcoming with support, information, and materials was absolutely wonderful. We will definitely plan more projects with their assistance in the future!
I have had yet another impressive interaction with Fairfax Releaf! This was my third opportunity to participate in their twice yearly practice of offering native seedlings to members of the community. As great as it is to add these plants to our yard, the best part of the experience is Taylor Beech. I'm not certain of Taylor's official title, but I am certain of her commitment to the organization, her knowledge of all things green, and the ease at which she carries out her responsibilities and works with residents.
Fairfax Releaf is a fine non-profit not only because of its considerable contribution to the county, but also because of the exceptional representative they have in Taylor Beech.
I now have a new favorite non-profit!!! Fairfax Releaf is incredible! Who knew that such a great nature-loving group existed so close to the big city? I read about Fairfax Releaf's Spring tree offering through our community newsletter, and decided to see what they were all about. Much to my amazement they were offering a wide variety of native trees and shrubs at no cost to residents. As cool as that was, things got even better once I heard back from Taylor Beach. Taylor was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, helpful, and exceptionally accommodating--plus she even had a tree name, though spelled "ea" instead of "ee", Taylor is a tree person through and through! Taylor and Fairfax Releaf provided me with more than 2 dozen trees and shrubs for our new home. What a great non-profit and horticultural opportunity for our county, and what a great representative this group has in Taylor!
Fairfax Releaf is a great nonprofit organization. I only learned of Fairfax Releaf recently and that was through a member of our HOA who had previously received from trees from Fairfax Releaf. The HOA member gave me the contact info for Tayor Beach. I reached out to Taylor to get some Redbud and Dogwood seedlings. What an incredible, incredible person Taylor is --- from the several phone calls and email exchanges with her to my finally meeting her to pick up the seedlings, she was most responsive and certainly set an example of excellence in customer service. Fairfax Relief is lucky to have just an incredible person as Taylor on the staff. She kept me posted by email on the status of my order. She was very accommodating on arranging a time for me to pickup the seedlings. Her vast knowledge of the various native trees is impressive. If you are looking for native tree seedling, contact Taylor at Fairfax Relief. Without a doubt, you will have a memorable experience. I very much look forward to contacting Fairfax Relief in the future when I need more native seedlings. Taylor, keep up the excellent work you do for Fairfax Relief.
My girl Scout Troop wanted to help the environment by planting trees. I called Fairfax Releaf and they returned my call that day. She said there was not an event we could join in my time period but we could do one on our own. She sent me a list of trees to chose from. She gave me details on how to plant them even a color handout. They provided everything, trees, stakes, and tubes to protect from deer and even loaned me some shovels. My girls really enjoyed it and they want to do it again. The neighborhood where we did planting looks great and all the trees are doing well.
Fairfax ReLeaf is a great Non-Profit. They helped us with our Earth Day celebration this year by providing hundreds of native tree saplings to be planted at no charge. We were able to distribute 900 saplings this year which were planted for Earth Day. Taylor Beach was extremely helpful with this effort. She is very knowledgeable of the saplings and accommodating on the pick up of the trees. Fairfax ReLeaf is a great organization and is a great help with replanting the tree loss in this area.
What a great program!! I was able to get trees of many varieties to plant along the front of our property that runs along a visible road. The trees will help reforest and block the view of traffic as well as clean the air. The whole thing could not have been easier! I got the trees, the tree guards and stakes a no charge. Can't wait till they take off and block the road visibility!
This is an important program as well because of so much tree loss due to development!! We need more trees!
Fairfax Releaf is a GREAT nonprofit organization. Taylor Beach has been so accommodating and helpful with getting my sister and I native plants for our new house which had nothing in the yard when we bought it. Taylor has been so reliable in getting back to us promptly so that we can pick up the plants that we requested and get them in the ground.
A big THANKS to Fairfax Releaf
Releaf is a great organization. They provided us with different species of native trees and shrubs which was exactly what we needed for your new home which only had one tree on the entire lot. Releaf also provided us with the stakes and protectors we needed to get the trees going. Taylor was great she was so accommodating with our last minute schedule and gave us all of the information we needed to get started.
Taylor Beach was fantastic. Our HOA is re-foresting our Common Ground and Taylor delivered 12 native species seedlings with directions, sleeves, etc. Fantastic project--we'll do another planting next year and look to work with Fairfax ReLeaf again.
I have been involved with Fairfax ReLeaf for about 5 years. It is wonderful to see the tree seedlings we plant grow over time and help make Fairfax County more livable. It is also wonderful to see the many volunteers we lead at planting events enjoy the service opportunity as well as the outdoors.
As a member of the Grounds Committee of our HOA, I contacted Fairfax ReLeaf to find out about their reforestation program. Taylor Beach was extremely helpful in working to educate me on the type of trees we needed and the timing of the plantings. My husband and I recently went to their training course to learn how to run an organized planting and participated in a volunteer planting. We then took delivery of our trees (saplings), stakes and collars, and were able to work with our neighbors to plant them in our neighborhood. Throughout this process, Taylor was very responsive. I was so impressed with this group that I have volunteered to become a member of the Board.
As a volunteer board member of a Homeowners Association, our association was in need of trees after we had several diseased trees removed. Toward that end, the Executive Director of Fairfax Releaf, Ms. Taylor Beach, was exceptionally helpful in numerous ways. Taylor expeditiously arranged a meeting between this writer and Fairfax County's Urban Forester. Thereupon, Taylor, the Urban Forester, Jim, and I met on site. Taylor and Jim examined the areas that needed trees and made suggestions concerning the types of trees that would do well. Their suggestions and recommendations were essential. Although the trees we decided upon would not be available until Spring, several days after said site visit, Taylor was able to obtain several of the desired trees. Taylor remembered me and immediately called to advise that she located the trees and I could retrieve same. Taylor was kind enough to fit me into her busy schedule so that she could provide me with said trees. Taylor also provided the necessary stakes and collars needed to protect the safeguard the trees as they grow in a busy area. We cannot thank Taylor enough for all her help and for her assistance in beautifying our neighborhood. Taylor, you are the BEST! Thank You!!
I contacted Fairfax ReLeaf last spring for help with reforesting a part of the HOA landscaping. They gave us a list of the trees available and we selected 14. Even though it was their busy time of year ReLeaf provided them promptly along with planting instructions. All but one of the trees have done very well. For future planning, ReLeaf arranged for a walk-around of the property with a professional forester (volunteer) and a ReLeaf representative for our landscape committee. We were very impressed with the expert advice that was given, and now have all of the information we need to further increase and enhance the area of reforestation. We have received advice from professional arborists in the past, and the help we got from Re Leaf was much better. ReLeaf will also arrange for volunteers to do the planting of new trees if needed. The experience of working with ReLeaf has been amazing because they are people who are knowledgable and really care about what they are doing. In addition it is very gratifying to see forested areas returning, and have a viable plan for the future.
As a member of our local Lions club, I was looking for assistance in obtaining trees for a worldwide International Lions Clubs project of planting one million trees in 2012. I was given the name of Fairfax Releaf as a possible source of trees. The executive director was extremely helpful in suggesting the appropriate trees for our selected location. She then provided the trees and associated materials, along with excellent information on planting and maintenance procedures. The project was most successful, largely due to the cooperation and expertise of Fairfax Releaf. And worldwide, Lions clubs planted more than 15 million trees!
Taylor and Fairfax Releaf are great. I was looking for volunteer opportunities with younger children, and Taylor connected us with a place in need of trees in our neighborhood that was safe for younger volunteers. At the planting session, Taylor was kind, patient, and informative - demonstrating how to plant trees to kids as young as 2 and 3 years old. I hope to make this an annual family event.
Fairfax ReLeaf to the rescue! My community initially contacted ReLeaf to help us replace some recently lost trees, but they delivered so much more. In addition to recommending and providing trees for the area we requested, they volunteered to help us with a much larger challenge we were facing and ended up improving both the environmental integrity and beauty of our neighborhood. Their expertise and service was outstanding, and working with Taylor was an absolute delight!
Fairfax Releaf and specifically Taylor Beach were incredible to work with on our neighborhood planting. We had been concerned for years about erosion around the lake, as well as replacement for several large trees lost to storms over the past 5 years. Fairfax Releaf provided recommendations for both situations. In addition, individual homeowners were given the opportunity to select a variety of additional trees for their property. On tree planting day, Taylor was there with all the necessary tools and supplies, along with trees labeled for individual owner. She provided great instructions, highly organized. Taylor provided great tips for maintaining our tree plantings and promised to replace any that might fail. We all worked hard but had a great time planting and sharing stories. I would highly recommend Fairfax Releaf to any neighborhood considering a major tree planting project.
I first met Taylor Beach and Jim when they came out to do a site survey for our community. They recommended several native tree seedlings to replace trees we've previously lost. Additionally, they recommended 60 shrub seedlings to help us control the erosion on our lake bank. They also taught us how to control the japanese honeysuckle that was attaching existing shrubs. We were over joyed with what they were offering our community for free. Taylor and Jim also provided excellent training to our coordinators and were available to answer questions as we prepared for our planting day. On planting day Taylor was there with all the tools we needed for the planting and was actively engaged with our volunteers to plant 84 seedlings in 3 hours. Not only were Taylor, Jim and Fairfax ReLeaf highly professional, we also had a lot of fun with Taylor on planting day. My experience with Fairfax ReLeaf was outstanding!
We have been working with Taylor Beach for several months now and recently she and Jim provided the Lake Braddock community project manager training and helped us get started with our tree and shrub project. Both Taylor and Jim are very professional and always well prepared and helpful in our meetings and other interactions. When they came to our community for the project manager training they brought all the equipment needed for the presentation and the planting of approximately 50 trees and bushes. At their suggestion, we've also opened this up to our homeowners who are very appreciative of the opportunity to plant native species on their property. We plan on this being a long term relationship to plant trees and shrubs throughout the 400+ acres of the Lake Braddock community. This is a great program and will provide decades of benefit to the residents. This should be more widely advertised to the county.
I worked closely with Ms. Beach to find the right trees for my lot. She was extremely helpful, friendly, and responsive to my request. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great non-profit. She does a great job fulfilling her mission.
Fairfax Releaf gave me 10 trees of my choice, along with all the necessary materials and instructions to plant them (includig wooden steaks, nets from birds, etc. They also offered for their volunteers to come plant it in my yard for free. They weree very helpful, and the trees are doing great.
Fairfax ReLeaf has provided the trees, expertise, equipment and supplies for over a decade to support tree planting on the campus of Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon, Virginia. Taylor Beach has been the Fairfax ReLeaf representative who has worked with our school for the last several years. She has been very flexible and has always gone out of her way to accomodate our needs around tree planting. Taylor visits the school before planting to assess the area most suitable for planting, brings all equipment, supplies and tree saplings, and teaches the students how to successfully plant trees. The students participate in a meaningful, educational activity in which they learn by doing. Many trees planted years ago are now 10 or more feet tall, providing wildlife habitat and food, reducing erosion and producing oxygen to name just a few benefits. One tree planted with Fairfax ReLeaf is now taller than the school. Students have been actively involved in tree planting almost every year since the school opened in 1998. One year, Taylor worked with a pair of Rachel Carson students to facilitate tree planting in their own community as part of a science project. The project was very successful and included numerous community and student volunteers. Thanks to Taylor Beach and everyone at Fairfax ReLeaf who have helped make all this happen! Tree planting with Fairfax ReLeaf has been a very successful, win-win partnership that we hope to continue fo rmany years to come.
Fairfax ReLeaf and Taylor Beach for the past two years have assisted us in our communities Earth Day celebration by providing us with excellent customer service in issuing trees, deer guards, bird nets and stakes. These last two years we have planted 200 trees on the backside of where we used to have garden plots that back up to Lake Accotink Park. The kids and adults who have participated have taken great pride in planting these trees and replenishing mother nature.
This organization has a great mission and is doing an excellent job getting it done. We look forward to many years ahead of working with them.
Fairfax Releaf, Taylor Beach has been giving great support for my wonderful Girl Scouts who have a project for the environment. When my scouts needed tree seedlings, she has provided in short notice. And she has came to the location where my scouts planted the tree seedlings, walked through with the scouts, and patiently answered all their questions.
Fairfax Releaf has been an absolutely wonderful organiztion to work with. From the planning of our projects, to the provision of great native plants and necessary materials, to the provision of tools, to help on educating our volunteers and staff, to the help on managing and actually planting our plants - Fairfax Releaf has always been there for us. As a result of Fairfax Releaf's assistance, Wolf Trap has made significant progress towards achieving many of its sustainable landscape goals and objectives.
Fairfax Releaf reached out and invited me to a project manager training session after I asked some questions about planting native trees in urban forests. The training session provided both hands-on experience with actual stakes, deer guards and tree seedlings (crucial) as well as basic information about planning an urban tree-planting project and the value of preserving urban forests. (My favorable experience with this training led to make a contribution of more than $100--not something I can afford to do routinely or lightly.) Later, when the time came for me to undertake a project, Fairfax ReLeaf provided enthusiastic encouragement, tree seedlings, stakes and deer guards--along with technical guidance about best planting time and what trees or shrubs would do best. While avoiding any bureaucratic hassle, the experts at Fairfax Releaf still provided the guidance needed to ensure that my volunteer efforts were sucessful. They are also very dedicated--when I needed to pick up 60 seedlings on a Sunday morning, Fairfax Releaf was there. This is a small but determined organization with a very large reach--bit by bit, this is the kind of work that will help control non-point pollution in the Chesapeake and provide natural greenspaces for city dwellers.
Love a group that knows their core biz and knows it well. Releaf is a perfect example. Love what they do, love how they do it.
In fall of 2009 nearly 500 trees were planted at Fairhill Elementary with a volunteer force of students. In April of 2010, Girl Scouts straightened up stakes and tubes around the existing trees and planted 30 more. In addition, about 100 trees were planted in a neighboring community in green space areas. Fairfax Re-Leaf promptly returned our calls and set us up with training, saplings, and supplies. The representative from Fairfax Re-Leaf met us at our chosen location and assisted in the initial plantings. Afterwards, this representative provided additional saplings and supplies as needed. Fairfax Re-Leaf enabled our Girl Scouts to earn an environmental award empowering them to make a tangible difference in their community.
Fairfax Relief has never failed us for the (trees) request we ask them. They give trees even the general public. With the housing development in our area, many matured trees are cut down to give way to the big houses. We planted the trees we got in our property and around the neighborhood. Ms. Beach gave very details on how to plant the trees and how to care for them.
My team and I set out to do our part in nurturing the enviornment by planting a few trees. What we did not anticipate was the fun-filled and knowledgeable experience we were blessed to undertake! The professional on-sit was fantastic! She taught us all the basics of planting and growing young trees. In many ways it was far more than we bargained for; both in learning and in love. We thank you for the opportunity!
Fairfax ReLeaf offered our 3rd-6th grade students a rare chance to impact their environment and actively participate in community service. We heard of Fairfax ReLeaf through a nearby middle school which has planted over 2,000 trees with them. Fairfax ReLeaf was extremely easy to work with. Ms. Beach brought a conservationist and school grounds supervisor to our school to select an appropriate site for planting, and on the event day, provided 18 free tree saplings, along with all of the tools necessary to clear, dig, plant, and secure them. She taught the students, and all we had to do was provide workers and water! It was a great experience, and we hope to make it an annual project. I would highly recommend this organization!
