Fair Share Gleaners is an organization where all the client's served are also volunteers - Each member family volunteers at least 8 hrs a month packaging food for distribution, assisting with distribution days (2 per week,) and/or going into the fields when farmers are done harvesting and collecting the food left behind for distribution to our members and adoptees. We are not a food bank. My family joined Fair Share late last summer and I really don't think we'd have gotten through the winter as relatively healthy as we have if not for the extra food help we've been able to get from Fair Share. I have a disability, but that hasn't stopped our family from averaging 20+ hours of volunteer time per month. We have also averaged 120lbs of food received each month. The thing I love about Fair Share the most is it's not a hand-out, they provide opportunities for members to help themselves and each other, and in the few short months I've been there, I feel like I've found a supportive Community which I can truly be a part of.
