I am an Acid Attack violence survivor from Uganda, currently pursuing a masters degree in international development and human security studies at the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate school of public and international affairs.
At a time I had lost hope due to rejection from many organizations I reached out to, Face Forward opened their doors to help me all the way from Uganda since 2015. This organization became my home for four consecutive months in the heart of Beverly Hills. As a single mom of two children, with no face left, this organization helped with rebuilding my entire face to give me the confidence that I have today. I have been able to return to school as a result and to be able to reach out to other women in the community. The Face Forward team works tirelessly to put different pieces together; from paying for airfare, to accommodation, to paying for doctors' appointment, including even providing therapy services as well as recreational services to rebuild a sense of self worth. Today I see myself as a better person than I ever was. I see myself as someone who has stumped over my abusive past and moved on triumphantly. My thanks go out to Dr. Alessi the co-founder who motivates me each time I walk into his office for procedures. He constructed my nose from my rib cage to give me a nose I never thought I would ever have again. Because of Face forward's support, I no longer have to rely on nosal tubes to be able to breath through the night. Face forward support has literally changed my life. They don't just transform physical appearance, they transform lives inside out. This is an organization you donate your money to and see where it goes. It helps transform lives like mine.
A small nonprofit doing BIG THINGS!
Face Forward is doing amazing work. They provide pro bono facial reconstruction to those who has suffered domestic violence or other acts of crime.
Have you ever thought about the aftermath of that acid attack victim you read about in the paper? Where do they go afterward for assistance? Does their heath insurance cover their needs? The surgeries needed to try to get one's face back are most often not covered and are extremely expensive. This is the hole that Face Forward is filling!
They have tapped into an area of work that is not widely known or being served and are filling a need that makes a dramatic impact on the lives of others!
Great charity doing great work for survivors. Great people!!!
A wonderful organization helping mentally and physically with therapy and surgical procedures all for free....
I am a proud board member for the non profit, Face Forward and I knew I had to get involved after attending my first 2016 GALA. I was so touched by how hard Deborah Alessi and her husband David Alessi work for this non profit. Deborah is the voice for the voiceless, the hope for the hopeless, putting actual smiles physically and spiritually back on a survivor's face.
Both amazing and highly rewarding! Keep up the good work!
Face Forward truly lives their mission of serving victims of Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking or any Cruel Acts of Crime with real compassion and empathy. Each individual I have met that works for this organization is truly a servant leader. Thank you Face Forward!
Face Forward organization gave me opportunity to receive reconstruction surgery due from sexual assault over 24 yes ago. Because of God touching Debra Alessi heart to start a wonderful organization and her anointed hands husband Dr David A lessi who operates on all victims pro bono. I dedicate my time and voice as a platform to help raise awareness on behalf of this amazing organization. I am honored to sit on the patient advocate board along with others survivors.
5/5 inspiring success stories and amazing fundraising events
As a board-member, I am constantly blown away with the work they do with such a small staff. Deborah Alessi is the mos t inspiring person I've ever met!
It's the fist non profit truly non profit. The fight that they put on everyday to help victims all over the world is insane and admirable!
Havana Nights 2016 Gala was a fundraising event like I've never seen. From the gorgeous event space (Vibiana DTLA) to the touching program with powerful speakers, Face Forward is really changing the world. Congratulations to Deborah Alessi and the amazing Face Forward team!
Dark Tide Productions, LLC of Los Angeles California could not be more enthusiastic about working with Face Forward. This 501(c)(3) non-profit works with community leaders and organizations around the nation and throughout the world, in order to identify victims of violence and human trafficking who are working toward recovery and who carry the physical evidence of past abuse day in and day out; they have provided over $750,000 pro bono treatments.
Deb and Mandi always go above and beyond for both their patients and team! This organization is absolutely doing their part to change the world.
Wonderful work being done for truly deserving people.
When I first heard about Face Forward, I couldn't believe the trama these women have gone through and survived to tell their story. People here are so compassionate, supportive, and caring. Face Forward helps them achieve their desired image little by little through plastic reconstructive surgery. This goes beyond what they had to live with, please give and support to better the lives of our survivors. God bless
One of the most amazing organizations I've had the pleasure of knowing! The change is real and the movement is impactful! The founder and staff work hard and you can see it in everything the organization puts out!
Excellent organization! Staff member Debbie Rumbo is very knowledgable and great to work with!
I never mind volunteering for Face Forward. They've helped my family and I see the way they help other victims from all over the world.
This review comes from watching my little sister go through something nobody ever should. There is no one who would've helped my sister the way Face Forward has. Both physically and mentally helping prepare her to move on and encouraging her to go back to school. She was afraid of people seeing her scars and judging. This winter she went back to school and although it is difficult she continues to try. Helping victims of violent crime is what they do and they're great at it. They didn't just help my sister they helped out whole family. Thank you Deborah.
Face Forward came into my life and offered me the ability to regain the last piece of confidence I needed to really hold my head up high. Complete Angels on earth.
Face Forward is truly changing lives
..one survivor at a time!
