Mission: Fabmo is a 501(c)(3), donor supported, all volunteer organization that divests useful designer materials form their otherwise destination (landfill) and makes them available to interested parties (such as teachers) for creative reuse. Sustainability of this rescue effort comes from the reuse of materials by others. Fabmo does no crafting of its own, but conducts workshops and classes on how to use these materials.
Programs: The organization actively sources materials which are set to be discarded from the interior design community. It distributes, without charge, these materials in a monthly three-day event to the public for creative re-use. The organization has active outreach effort in the community with regular participation (displays, activity tables, etc. ), at environmental and community events, to tell the repurposing story. A textile art boutique is hosted annually to showcase resulting products, each with significant repurposed content obtained through fabmo. Previous textile art boutiques attracted crowds from 700-800 people.
In 2010 I discovered FabMo and I was hooked. FabMo and its fabulous materials became the inspiration for my eco-friendly accessory and jewelry business. I was so taken with their mission of keeping materials out of the landfill and supporting creativity that I started volunteering there and am now a member of their Board. I am also organizing their second ONLINE Artisan Showcase, given that in-person events were not possible during Covid.
