Mission: To connect every experienced adult with a passion for improving their community to an organization in need of people's time, talent and experience. We operate as a consortium of business professionals, community leaders and organizations who work strategically to enhance the capacity of the public and nonprofit sectors to tap into the talent of committed adults in our community.
Programs: Encore fellowship program: this program allows highly-skilled professionals to work on a 1,000 hour strategic initiative while embedded in the nonprofit organization for a six to twelve month internship. The program helps nonprofits build their internal capacity in areas such as technology, hr, finance, and project management while allowing experienced professionals leverage their skills and talents for social good. In addition, it gives businesses an opportunity to assist those employees who will be transitioning from corporate careers to a new stage of work and life, while complementing corporate programs such as early retirement, corporate volunteerism or outplacement services. Through 2014, experience matters has matched 119 encore fellows who have generated an estimated $8 million of contributed human capital to the sector. Service by design: service by design brings together member nonprofit organizations in need of expertise with professionals who want to apply their talents and skills in a one time or short term assignment. Projects may include a vast array of opportunities from teaching and training to design or planning. Nonprofit organizations and service by design associates receive ongoing coaching to ensure successful work plan, placement and completion of project. Through 2014, experience matters has matched 44 associates who have generated an estimated $220,000 in contributed human capital to nonprofits in maricopa county.
supporting nonprofits in creating volunteer engagement models (demand): learning lab workshops: for nonprofit organizations and government agencies, the learning lab workshops inspire new ideas and insights to increase the capacity of organizations to capture the energy and expertise of adults age 50+. The two-day in-depth training is led by experienced trainers knowledgeable about managing change in nonprofit organizations and capacity building. Participants come away with new insights, as well as realistic, actionable plans. To date, experience matters has trained over 250 nonprofit leaders from 163 organizations to support their abililty to attract, engage, and retain skilled talent in achieving their mission. Member connect: these engaging, resource-building workshops help nonprofits expand on ideas and practices learned at the learning lab workshops, while also providing networking opportunities among nonprofit peers. These workshops are offered 3-4 times a year and are offered free of charge to nonprofit members. Active-8 (pronounced 'activate'): this program provides intensive follow-on training and technical assistance to nonprofits interested in embedding the learning lab practices in their organizations. Based on a rigorous curriculum and delivered through professional coaches and facilitators, active8 supports organizations in integratingon the eight leading practices in volunteer engagement into an organization. The program also provides coaching, tools, templates and exercises to enhance volunteer engagement. Over the past eighteen months, 33 organizations have completed the full active8 coaching program.
engaging skilled volunteer talent (supply): explore your future workshops: this is a four-session series designed for employees and individuals age 50+ who are in job transition or seeking to discover their pathway in the next phase of their lives. These workshops help businesses enhance their employee loyalty, reduce employee transition impact on the organization, and increase social responsibility efforts. Encore discovery: encore discovery is a highly interactive and thought-provoking series of workshops providing baby boomers the opportunity to begin exploring their journey and plans for a powerful and purposeful second act. Book groups: book groups provide boomers with the opportunity to read transition-related materials and books and discuss them in a facilitated setting with like-minded individuals. Coffee talk: coffee talks bring like-minded boomers together to learn more about current opportunities at experience matters.
americorps and rsvp engagement programs:both americorps and senior corps/rsvp are funded in part through the corporation for national and community service (cncs). These programs focus on an intergenerational approach to improve education and strengthen communities while supporting the changing expectations and needs of boomers in maricopa county. The two americorps programs include "your experience counts," which is a mentoring partnership with handson greater phoenix, and "boomers serving arizona schools," which helps schools assess needs, analyze community resources and foster business and community relationships with special emphasis on boomer engagement. Senior corps/rsvp is a program designed to engage volunteers age 55+ in the following service activities: school-based literacy tutoring; school-based mentoring; distribution of benefits information; and food delivery with a primary focus in education (k-12 success. )website mainstay: in addition to matching programs for skilled adults to projects, experience matters is building a web-based technology platform which communicates the major programs and needs of the organization to individual candidates and participant organizations, and enables the online recruitment and training of prospective volunteers through implementation of a web-based learning management system.
