The care and love the birds receive is amazing. The knowledge that Kim and her crew pass on is extremely helpful for both the birds and people. The back story for some of these birds is heartbreaking. Ignorant people can be so cruel. So I'm glad to know that there are people, like Kim, who see to these wonderful, intelligent creatures!
The sanctuary is a magical place full of color, playfulness and love. They really know there stuff when caring for our feathered friends.

My husband and I took a tour at the Sanctuary last year and LOVED it! I had been wanting to go for a while and luckily we were able to tour the last tour of the season. We will definitely be back.
The love and care that Kim and her volunteers do for these birds is beyond what is necessary. The time spent making vegetables and fruit for healthy diets, cleaning and giving attention to all of these beautiful souls, plus doing tours and raising money to continue is heart warming. I worked with the rescue in relocating some neglected parrots from bad situations into this rescue. I was delighted to see the medical care and healthy diet they were provided.
They are well socialized, have plenty of space, and are living their best lives now thanks to this rescue.

I follow this rescue have for years. Kim Hannah is a soldier in rescuing parrots from bad situations and also from good situations where the owner has circumstances they cannot control.
Kim is always improving her facility and works tirelessly for the many many birds she saves and gets vetted and loves each one. She has wonderful volunteers that make it all work. She is one of a kind and loves All wildlife with deep respect.
I have visited EAST twice. Kim and the volunteers do a wonderful job caring for the birds in their care. The facility is well set up and amazingly clean (parrots are very messy). If everyone put forth a fraction of the effort to care for animals, the world would be a much better place.

Both my husband and I are proud to support this excellent parrot rescue and sanctuary since June 2018. We are volunteers, donors and clients. I am also proud to be a Board member of this organization. The parrots who come to EAST know compassion, care and love. Kim Hannah, founder, gives these birds (often from terrible circumstances) a safe place to land, where they receive the best medical care, nutrition and hands-on time. Additionally, EAST has some of the best volunteers I've ever seen: experienced and reliable. Everyone involved with this sanctuary maintains the highest of ethics. My husband and I have created a future Lifetime Care and will for our macaw should we die or become incapacitated before our parrot passes. The founder and Executive Director of EAST, Kim Hannah, has dedicated her life to giving the best lives possible to unwanted or surrendered parrots. I have known Kim Hannah now for close to 20 years. There is no other person out there as committed to animal welfare as she is. When she opened EAST I was thrilled. Already in just a few short years she has saved and helped so many parrots in need. I pray she is able to continue her work to benefit other parrots and birds needing a home.
I volunteered here for 2 years and met my birds there! Kim is a one of a kind human who treats all the birds at the sanctuary like family. Birds, especially companion birds are so misunderstood and very few typical pet rescue places know how to properly care for them. I had been looking to adopt a Cockatoo for quite some time and Kim Hannah encouraged me through the process and placed a beautiful boy with us. She is a wonderful person that truly cares about her birds and the Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee is a wonderful place to adopt from.
I got to tour the facility a few years ago. It is always clean, the birds have everything they need.
Each bird receives attention and if something is wrong, it is immediately taken care of.

We were thinking of adding a bird to our flock and reached out to EAST. I was never pressured to take a bird I didn’t want, we actually got just what we asked for!! Older bird, needing a home due to no fault of his own, just an elderly owner looking for a suitable home for his 30 year old friend. This way he didn’t have to worry what would happen when he became unable to care for him. Our new feathered friend is a “character” and boy he makes us laugh (mostly when he yells “dumb a$$” he fits right in!)the process was painless and the questions on the adoption form were all reasonable. This is really a sanctuary that wants to make successful matches!
Not only has this rescue (and Kim, who runs it) helped connect me with multiple birds who I have since adopted, but they are also available and responsive for any parrot-related questions I have ever sent them online. Exotic Avian Sanctuary not only loves parrots, but they go out of their way to provide extensive emergency veterinary care, as well as education for current and potential parrot owners. I cannot say enough great things about EAST.
The owner operator and the volunteers of this Sanctuary are dedicated to the healthy care of the residents. Residents are given healthy food and access to the outdoors. They started out caring for birds in need, in their home with just donations and volunteers. They have expanded to a beautiful location. The number one priority are the residents! The owner has sacrificed a lot to take care of these birds and they LOVE it!

I have 5 birds, All but one are rehomes. As I have aged it has been an increasing concern to me of what will happen to my birds when I am unable to no longer care for them. I discovered EAST on Facebook and am so impressed with the beautiful facility and the love that Kim Hannah and the volunteers give to the birds. I support them and the wonderful service they offer to birds needing a home whether temporary or for sanctuary.
East has been like a home away from home for me. I am there most Sundays feeding and watering. I've come to know the birds who have stolen my heart. I love them and I love EAST!!!
EAST is doing phenomenal work in caring for exotic birds that need homes. If there isn’t room at the sanctuary for another bird they work with their network to connect families. This is how I was introduced to my parrot! I had been a volunteer for a few months when my bird passed away. I was ready to open my home to another parrot and was introduced to a family in need of rehoming their beloved parrot.
I’m very grateful to EAST for the introduction and the work they’re constantly doing to ensure exotic parrots are well loved and taken care of.
EAST is so awesome! They connected me with my baby, Ekko. They do such wonderful work and truly do care. They deserve all the accolades they can get.
EAST is hands down one of the greatest organizations I've ever interacted with. The amount of love and dedication they give these birds is phenomenal. They also go out of their way to find good homes for birds that are adoptable. I will never be able to thank them enough for completing our family. My life wouldn't be the same.
A few years ago we adopted our latest feather baby and he has been one of the best changes to our lives. We're about to go on vacation soon where our feather baby will not be able to go and he will be boarding with EAST and visiting his friends he made while he was waiting for his forever home. Kim is amazing. We went for a tour in 2021 and got to meet a lot of the birds in the sanctuary. I was in absolute bird heaven, those birds were so well taken care of and loved. After we got to talking with Kim, I had mentioned that I've always wanted an African Grey parrot. Long story short, she came out to our house, met the birds in our flock, and introduced us to an African Grey that was needing a forever home. I cannot begin to express how much our CAG has brought to our family. We've only had him for just under a year and already we can't imagine life without him. This was all due to Kim's love of these birds and always trying to do what is best for THEM!
Seeing all the happy faces and the interaction with people and the birds brings a good feeling for everyone. We always hope to educate and our volunteers are our best friends too. The director dedicates her whole life to the birds and this rescue. I'm honored to be a part of this.

I've been a Volunteer at EAST just shy of 5 months now, and I can safely say it's been by far one of the most rewarding and endearing experiences. Kim Hannah, our director, and other volunteers, welcomed me into their fold regardless of knowing basically nothing about exotic birds other than my love for them. Through them, and through getting to know the birds themselves, I'm all the wiser and learning more each day.
Also in this brief period, I've seen rescued birds come into the sanctuary from such deplorable conditions and in such poor health, only to see them flourish, thrive, and become practically different birds altogether due to the quality of care they've been finally given.
I've had the opportunity to meet visitors who come for our tours and witness them leaving with a new perspective on the birds as well as a deeper love for them. One visitor who still stands out to me said they loved going to aviaries in zoo's around the country, but ours by far was the most informative and intimate. And he's right! The tours are small groups and uncrowded, allowing for everyone's chance to ask questions, interact with the birds, and spend time with them on much more personal basis. Each visitor leaves with a smile and a respect for what EAST is doing to help these birds thrive.
To call Kim Hannah our director, is an understatement. She lives for these beings 24/7. Never have I met a more selfless, kind, and intelligent leader in all my life. Family included. She's ever learning, teaching, nurturing, rescuing, and loving every day without wavering. Every. Single. Day. And she passes that forward towards everyone she meets. I'm a better person just being in her company.
Oh, and she swears too. A lot. ( Have to get that in here lol ) Why? Because running EAST is hard. Yes, it's all a labor of love, but it's a LOT of hard work. It's made easier at times with help, but for the most part, it's a challenge. She meets each one (with a bit of salt sometimes ) and surpasses it.
Another volunteer visited an aviary out west not too long ago and came back to tell Kim, "You need to know, you can hold your head up high with what you're doing here as EAST."

Adopted a wonderful feathered member of our family from EAST. The sanctuary is very well run. The facilities are clean and well kept. Bird safe toys and nutritious food are provided. All the birds seem very happy at the rescue. The rescue thoroughly screens all prospective adoptive homes and makes the welfare of each bird the main consideration.

Where to begin...I am a newly rescued HUMAN by finding this organization. I just lost my feathered companion of 27 years unexpectedly this week and have felt like my heart has been literally breaking into. I wanted to do something in Psycho's honor, my blue-fronted Amazon angel. I started Googling bird sanctuaries and found this one. I am so thankful I did. Although my heart is heavy, there is a slight lightness because of Kim and this organization as I process through my grief. I am now sponsoring an orange winged Amazon here that reminded me of Psycho. Her name is fittingly Angel. Kim is wonderful to work with and has helped me so much already. I know the sanctuary is about the birds, and thank God for that. However, it is also an answer to prayer for people like me who love their animals dearly and need healing when they leave us. I just visited East today. I had wanted to go there forever, it seems. The wait was well worth it. I was so happy to meet the birds and some of the staff. I am extremely impressed with the aviary and premises. Everyone was so friendly and it was great to see people interacting with the birds. I love East!
We had the most beautiful little blue parakeet eating at our bird feeder in our backyard in Hermitage. He was sweet he sat on my husbands arm and followed me around as I watered flowers and filled the bird bath. I knew he couldn’t survive long term outside, so I got on face book and asked for help. I was directed to the Exotic Avian Sanctuary near where we lived. I sent a fb message and very quickly heard back that a rescue volunteer would be on their way to rescue this sweet little bird. I got to meet Doris and visit with her as we waited for the best moment for her to approach him. Sure enough she rescued him and I found a new friend in Doris. I also found one my very favorite rescues, the Exotic Avian Sanctuary.
Kim has been a Godsent. She has keep my Cockatoos for about 6 years, starting when she was in her old place. It is about a 7 hour drive from my house to Kim's so it is way out of my way if I want to take a vacation. Kim Keep my T2 Sonnie while I was at UT with my M2 Peaches who had cancer. She was very supportive Through out Peaches sickness and I did not have to worried about Sonnie.
I talked to Kim and Kathy about taking my cockatoos years ago when I can no longer take care of them, due to my death or sickness. This is a big relief since I'm in my 74 and my children do not want Sonnie. I feel Sonnie will be well cared for, loved and never mistreated.

Birds should be free, but for domesticated birds, EAST ensures they receive the best life possible to live out their days. I cannot say enough good things about how EAST has impacted my life and taught me about conservation of exotic animals.
My husband and I can't say enough GREAT things about Kim Hannah and the Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee (EAST.) We had an Umbrella Cockatoo for many years when I developed an allergy to her. We continued to keep our precious bird because we couldn't imagine where we could put her to make sure she had a happy long life. We didn't want to adopt her out to someone else as she has been with us for most of her life. I happened to be online when a link to EAST popped up. I reached out to Kim and we went to visit her and get more information on what our options would be. After meeting her and understanding her philosophy and love for birds (and all animals) we left our bird there for 2 weeks to see how things went. Needless to say, they went great. We signed up for the long term care which we pay a monthly fee. Our precious bird now is living the life a bird is meant to live. She is able to fly, go outside (even in the rain for a shower) and has playmates. We highly recommend EAST to anyone in need of a loving, caring person (Kim) or place for their beloved bird.

I have followed Kim and her Avery for years. She works hard, and cares tirelessly for these birds. They have a beautiful home with here. She has built a home as close to their natural environment as you can get. It is clean, well maintained, and staffed. I have asked Kim if my bird could come there, should I no longer be able to care for her. It is the only place I would ever feel comfortable sending my baby, because I know she'd be happy and cared for. Kim and co. Get an A+ in my book !
Kim is amazing and EAST is her life. She has saved so many birds from death, taken them in, loved them, rehabilitated them, and nursed them back to health. She is very responsible when adopting out these babies. I live 1.5 hours from Kim and she came and did a home inspection and made sure that my home was suitable for the bird that I adopted from her. Vessie is a Jenday Conure who I adopted from Kim 4 years ago at age 19. I have had birds for all of my adult life and Vessie is by far the sweetest bird that I have ever owned. Thank you Kim for all that you do for these babies. Your sacrifice of time, money, and giving of your life to all of these birds does not go unnoticed. You are a hero!
Kim and Co are fantastic people, and they have built such an amazing home for the birds they care for. Kim is passionate about her birds, and has been a true inspiration for me. Not only does she provide excellent care to her own birds, but was so incredibly helpful to me when I had a companion bird. You won't find anyone with more knowledge and with more spirit than Kim.

Kim was such a font of knowledge when I had my conure, Joey. After he passed, seeing the work this place does for companion birds really warms my heart. Kim and her staff truly love the birds in their care, and provide support even after they are adopted. I live aeeing the atories of birds happy and healthy in their forever homes.
I’m also a volunteer! My “client served” story is: I awoke to find my beloved mini macaw barely responsive. Through tears/panic I crated him and sent a message to Kim asking where their emergency vet was. She got back to me immediately and gave the address, even offering to do turn-by -turn directions with me. She then offered to call ahead and let them know I was on my way with a critical bird. I was SO GRATEFUL for that! The vet staff met me right away upon arrival! Four days later Kim also wept with me as we mourned Scooter’s passing. Kim’s passion/compassion for ANY bird is evident.
My husband and I have also adopted a pair of lovebirds and a conure from EAST. Our lives are that much richer for the love we’ve added in our house.
Once I was no longer working nights, I began volunteering. EAST - all of EAST- volunteers, Board of Directors, Kim, Kathy, EVERYONE, are amazing people. I’ve worked for one of the most well-known bird sanctuaries in the USA and from that experience, let me say unequivocally, these folks are the REAL DEAL. This organization is highly ethical and a true gift to our area.
EAST is the only parrot rescue/sanctuary in TN that I would ever volunteer for! Kim Hannah does a remarkable job running it 24/7, and eventhough she has a lot of volunteers, the birds still have food and medical expenses which amount to thousands of dollars each year. And, due to unforseen circunstances, the Sanctuary's physical location will most likely need to be relocated. EAST is very deserving of this, please consider her for this grant.
I was referred to Kim by a sweet friend. I drove out to the Sanctuary and I was completely mind blown. The place is beautiful and you can tell the birds are extremely happy and well taken care of. Kim is such a hard-working woman. I adopted 2 sweet little budgies from her and they are just the sweetest things.
I have known Kim for almost 15 years. She has always had a passionate heart for parrot rescue and welfare. When the time was right to launch her rescue EAST, she used all her accumulated knowledge, compassion and experience and did it RIGHT. You will not find a better run rescue or more dedicated, honest director than Kim. EAST is the benchmark!
One of the biggest challenges for large, domestic birds is that thousands outlive their owners and then have nowhere to go. This organization not only helps provide care and rehomes orphaned birds, but they help educate pet owners how important it is to plan for the possibility that their bird might outlive them. Birds are incredibly intelligent and it’s tragic that they are often overlooked and end up in sad situations when their humans don’t plan for their lifetime care.
This is such a kind thing that Kim does to help parrots in need of a loving home, I believe that if we were all like kim the world would be a kind home for every parrot. Thank you for all you do.
EAST is my favorite rescue. I adopted my Timneh, Sasha from them a few years ago. They were very flexible and worked with me to schedule a meet and greet time that fit my busy schedule. Kim and EAST are fantastic. They really do care about the birds they take in. I contacted her looking for a timneh African grey parrot and she said they hardly ever ended up at her sanctuary. Three days later I received a message from Kim saying "you're not gonna believe this..."
I visited the new facility in its construction phase and was amazed at what they were doing. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful... Exactly what you would expect of a sanctuary!
I've had my little girl Sasha for a year now and she makes me very happy! After the adoption, Kim always was happy to help if I had any questions or issues about my birds.
They are truly an amazing organization that works tirelessly to assist birds in need.
I have been a long distance supporter of Kim Hannah & EAST for many years, even before this beautiful new facility was built. Her heart & soul is all about the birds & ensuring each & every one of them are living their best life after many have experienced neglect & abuse. Everything is designed for that, from huge indoor aviaries to large outdoor ones, one even equipped with a functional stream for them to play in.
When I am no longer able to care for my birds or upon my passing, I would like them to be with Kim at EAST & all her fabulous volunteers, who love them all as much as she does. It's clean, well designed & provides a variety of various diets & enrichment for its residents. Can't recommend EAST enough.

I have been around animals including birds my whole life and rarely have I ever seen someone who cares as deeply about their babies like Kim does. Her every waking moment goes in to providing the best possible environment and diet and toys for those birdies in her care. And make no mistake, Kim does this 24/7 - 365 with rarely a day off. And the reason Kim does what she does is simple - she loves each and every one of the birds without fail. Kim also loves the rest of the animal world but the birds are her passion and it shows in every thing she does for them.

East and Kim Hannah are a godsend to the avian world. I met Kim after my African Grey, Mali, died at age 23. I needed to see parrots again and experience the magic only they can provide so I took a drive to East and was blown away. The birds are cared for so lovingly and so well! The feeling of happiness is just exhilarating when you walk in the building. I will continue to support this gift of a facility that is so badly needed.
My husband and I moved to Nashville in 2006 and my first search was for a parrot rescue organization to be a part of! We brought two birds with us, long-time family members, have adopted two more from EAST since moving here, and sponsor Andy, a lifetime resident of EAST.

Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee is one of those rare non profits that we need so many more of. Kim and her crew love and care immensely about each and every bird that EAST helps. EAST does so much to provide Parrots a safe haven for as long as the Parrot needs to stay and some never leave. One weekend not long ago I had an emergency with my Umbrella Cockatoo and my Avian Vet was closed, emergency Vet’s would take my bird, I live in Western Ky and I called Kim who is in Tennessee, leaving a voice message, she called me back immediately and gave me great advice as to where to take my U2 during a weekend emergency. Kim was the reassurance and comfort that I needed in my crisis. Last year I was inspired to do everything that I could to make a difference in other birds lives and to educate owners for the welfare of bird.

This is a rescue that does it right! Every bird is vetted and on a healthy diet. Birds are in aviaries and provided enrichment along with a flock.

I was a part of the inception of EAST and am proud of what it has become. It is truly one that is done right from start to finish! Honesty, care, love, enrichment, healthy diet, and proper vet care are all things EAST strives for and takes precedence. Kim has exhausted herself building her dream and to make sure no bird will ever go without.
I have been volunteering at EAST since September and I’m totally in heaven when there. Kim & the gang have truly created something rather magical there. It’s the bird’s world & we simply share their space. I’ve so loved learning the different personalities. In November a Moluccan cockatoo was surrendered who I quickly fell in love with and have been sponsoring since Christmas. Best Christmas gift ever. He’s rather possessive of me now. Lol. Sammy flew down the hall for the first time a month ago and we cheered. It’s truly was like watching a baby take it’s first steps. I’m no sure there is anyone that doesn’t love Britches. I quite adore Gypsy. It doesn’t matter what’s on your mind or how bad you feel stepping in that door changes your mood. Step into the littles aviary and peace sets in. There is simply nothing like EAST and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Kim is such a caring person for all Gods creatures I will never forget how she came to help me search for my cockatiel that got out in the brutal cold a few years back and we did get him back she has a beautiful facility her birds are so happy there you can just tell her sanctuary has taken in so many precious birds and animals as well it's a huge blessing to our community
I'v been following Kim for quite a few years, from her Nashville 9 to her full-fledged rescue. I have watched her sucesses and heartbreaks as she takes everyone of those beatiful creatures into her heart. I've never met her but I can feel her inspiration and dedication. I have on occasion reached out for advice and she to me when I lost my beautiful Demelza. I feel she is the modern day St. Frances as she respects all creatures.
Avian Sanctuary kept our cockatiels for us to go to Hawaii. We have seen how much Kim loves the birds and how well they are taken care of. They constantly are improving where and how the birds are kept. It is an awesome place.
I give EAST a 5 out of 5 star review! My Husband and I were lucky enough to help out with some of the construction and I can say that everything is first class. Kim Hannah is a beautiful human being and puts her heart and soul into the place and gives the very best care and nutrition to her flock. We are so blessed to have a place like EAST here in the Nashville area. It's a Godsend to so many Parrots who otherwise may have crossed Rainbow Bridge without her love and care.
I have not yet made a visit to EAST, but i plan on it in the future! I have talked with Kim a bit and seen her rescue through Facebook and even have donated a few times! I love what they do for their rescues!
I started volunteering at EAST back in January and fell in love with the birds. This organization is doing everything they can to give these birds a safe, fun, and stimulating environment which is so important to their development. I go twice a month and help clean up the stalls, hang bird toys, and I spend lots of time with the birds themselves, playing with and holding them. I adore being here and although I have never been apart of an adopting process or a meet and greet with the birds in schools, I recognize and appreciate it's importance in the exotic pet environment. Many people don't know the amount of commitment it takes to raise birds. There are efforts made through this organization to help people see they are more than just their imitations and their cuddles. I LOVE that they are considered a rescue, sanctuary, and boarding. With the set up of the facility it works incredibly well. The ability to be all three makes people realize these birds can live to be older than the average human, needing a sanctuary to call home. Birds are an incredible amount of work, need for the rescue. And boarding can't just be anyone, exotic bird knowledge should be expected from anyone planning to have or even take care of these birds. Overall it's a wonderful environment, if anyone has ever been curious about adopting a bird volunteering a while is a great way to learn and experience first hand what you are getting yourself into.

I have been volunteering with EAST going on my 3rd year . I never thought I would be where I’m at today struggling with depression and anxiety Kim opened her doors and her heart to me and I have never felt more at home then I do when I’m at EAST . Volunteering here I have learned so much from animal care , behavior, falling in love with these beautiful creatures meeting new people and making new friends . My name is Ashley and I've been volunteering at EAST (Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee) going on two years.
I have always loved animals. I came across EAST when I was looking for volunteering opportunities. I've always had a passion for birds (I was helping a friend do retirement home visits with her cockatoo) and this was right up my alley. I contact Kim and I've been volunteering ever since. EAST holds a special place in my life. Dealing with depression and anxiety, Kim has provided a place where not only parrots are taken care of but a place that you feel like you are making a difference. I have become very attached to the birds that we have under our care and it is bitter-sweet to see them go but seeing them thrive in an environment that suits them...words cannot describe. Kim has dedicated her life to provide a place for these special creatures and I'm so glad to be a part of it.
Kim Hannah works tirelessly & selflessly. Every single bird in her charge is loved & cared for physically & emotionally. Her love for our feathered friends is more obvious than evident. I have volunteered & fundraised for this organization & will continue to do so!
Kim at EAST was incredibly helpful and thoughtful in finding us the perfect parrot to join our family. I could not be more impressed with a rescue facility than I am with EAST. They connected me with my Molucan cockatoo and she is a joy. Their facilities could not be more perfect. They really go all out to provide and enriching environment for the birds.
As they were just getting started, several years ago, the EAST team visited a rescue in Atlanta where I was volunteering. I finally had the pleasure of visiting their location this year. I was impressed. The toys and space available to the birds were much more than adequate. And the care they receive was excellent from everything I saw. Keep up the good work!
I wanted an exotic bird, but I am a huge supporter of adoption. I found East, got in touch with Kim and now I have my sweet Rio, an Indian Ringneck. I was her fourth home in 10 months. She was 10 months old when I adopted her and we had some issues at first due to her changing homes so often. She couldn't trust. To see her then as to now you would think she was a different bird.
She loves me and trusts me as I do her and that bond is something so special that words can not attempt to explain it. She has made such an impact on my life and I love her so much. They really are amazing creatures. Kim is amazing and is always there for me when I have any questions or concerns. Her love and respect for these birds is truly heart warming. Thank you so much Kim for trusting me with this amazing creature. She will always be loved and given the best life possible. In 2017, my heart and love, my Sweetie Pie, my African grey of nearly 15 years passed away suddenly of old age. A friend told me she would help me find another rescue when I was ready to adopt. She showed me a photo of Smokey with a messed up beak, needing a forever home. I wasn't certain that my heart was healed enough, as Sweetie had just passed away. I prayed and studied it. I searched online and spoke with several rescues. It all came back to Smokey at EAST. Yet EAST was too far from me and may not consider my application for this reason, as I was located just on the edge of the adoption range. It turned out that I was on the inside edge when the research was done and my family was blessed with Smokey. Smokey was chosen because of his special needs. Most people look for a "perfect parrot." Anyone owning a parrot knows there is no such animal~they are all psycho! -Especially at mealtime. Certain color foods are poisonous on various days! A special needs Cockatiel blesses our home already, and another would add more blessings. Smokey has a unique personality and came around flavorful. His food/pellets must be moistened at each feeding and he cannot have shelled nuts, yet he doesn't eat many nuts. Other than that, his life is that of a colorful, sprite parrot. Lucas, the 'tiel, adores him and he is learning to fly and land properly. Thanks to EAST for rescuing from the years of neglect that caused his beak injury and it is a thousand wonders he did not starve to death before his rescue. The photos at his rescue and his now photos show a phenomenal transformation of a happy and healthy bird that knows love. Boy, does this grey boy know love! Thank you, Kim Hannah for trusting us with this bundle of sass! He is such a star for the company that made his flight suit, I had to set up his InstaGram account! Giggle. His fans demanded it! They love his story and His suit is a tribute to Rhea-the Naked Birdie who was also a special needs birdie from disease. the suit says "love what is different" ~ we ALL can attest to that!
I happened to be in the area for work and Kim kindly arranged for me to be able to visit. It was spur of the moment and the place was spotless, happy, and welcoming. I couldn't believe how calm all the birds were and the cleanliness of the aviaries was astounding. I wholeheartedly recommend EAST for adoptions, and general parrot care questions. Any bird would be lucky to have Kim on their side.
My husband and I wanted to learn more about parrots, so we began to volunteer at EAST once a week. What first struck us is the intense sense of caring that Kim has for each of the birds in her care. The mutual love between the birds and Kim is amazing. Even the most timid birds trust her.
Since we have been volunteering there, we have adopted two birds. Rebel, a 20 year old African grey, and PB, a 10 year old conure. Thanks to Kim, we now have these two amazing birds in our family and will always treasure them. Kim makes a difference for numerous birds and their human families.
I became FB friends with Kim years ago. She is one of the most amazing souls I’m blessed to have In my life. Her love for “all things living” is so beautiful and truly inspiring. We can judge the heart of a woman by her treatment of animals. Kim’s Heart is HUGE and overflowing with LOVE

I met Kim Hannah & Kathy Floyd years ago on Fb, when they were just helping birds out of Kims home. I watched them build the outdoor aviary, and rescue more birds. I donated to special cases, so they could continue to help. I cheered when she became a full fledged rescue. I watched Kims dream of buying land, and building a building and expand their mission of helping pet birds in need in middle Tennessee. Kims selfless dedication and drive is remarkable, and I am proud to know her. EAST is one of the charities that I donate to monthly, I believe in their mission and goals. There is no drama, no fussing of volunteers or board directors, just passionate people helping birds in need. They are the BEST!
When Joann and I first visited EAST last year, Kim was just starting to frame out the interior of the new facility. Since then the main facility has been completed and all the birds moved into their new free flight rooms. The continued expansion plans are going as Kim stated when we first visited with her, with the impressive outdoor aviaries well on their way to be completed.

My wife and I ran a small avian rescue for almost 20 years. When we moved us all to Nashville, we were only 1 of 2 registered with Davidson County. (Angel's Wing and a Prayer Parrot Rescue) I was so happy to see EAST be born! EAST has become so much more than we ever tried to do, and those services are so needed here! We have aged out of this business (calling). EAST will take care of any remaining parrots we have when we get too old to care for them ourselves. Thank You, Kim. Love y'all.
EAST is a wonderful place for parrots. The sanctuary is a beautiful place with beautiful birds and a very loving, kind and ambitious leader. We wish we lived closer to be able to volunteer routinely.

We found the bird rescue while my daughter was trying to find something she could do for birds in our community for her Girl Scout Silver Award. We were so happy we did. We have learned so much bout the needs & have become aware of how many birds need a new home or need a sanctuary to live their lives out. We can't wait to be a part of more things at the sanctuary & continue to be a part of educating people about parrots.
We adopted our amazing macaw from Kim, the owner of this awesome place. Our girl makes us smile, laugh and for sure makes us crazy but I feel so lucky to have her.
Kim has been there time and time again with advice for us and we couldn't do it without her . And more importantly the beautiful birds that she has taken in wouldn't have the great life and love that they have without her. Thank you for all you do Kim.

I was able to volunteer several times helping clean out aviaries and playing with the birds. I absolutely loved it. This is an amazing, loving place for all types of birds. I hope when my health improves I will be able to volunteer again.
I volunteer at EAST once a week and have been impressed with the compassion and expertise of the staff and volunteers. They really have a heart for the birds and are not afraid to do the hard work necessary to keep the birds safe and healthy. Kim is the most selfless animal lover I have ever encountered. She fed a wasp with a dropper to keep it alive, for crying out loud. I can’t say enough about her passion for her flock. I have two of her fosters now!!
Kim Hannah and Kathy Floyd are 2 of the most selfless, caring people I know. EAST and these two beautiful souls who run the sanctuary / rescue define what rescue is all about. My husband and I have adopted 2 parrots from them, and would never consider dealing with any other rescue. We were slightly outside their normal home visit range, but after talking with them, they didn't hesitate to make the drive. I am so happy for them and the parrots in their care with the new sanctuary being built. Not only did we gain two new flock members, we gained 2 amazing friends for life. I cannot say enough about how I feel about these ladies and what they do. So many are always talking about making a difference - these ladies DO make a difference.

Hi my name.is lisa. I am deaf and hard of hearing read lip very way. Kim and kathy are.so good to us and will talk to me thru. Video phone and talk to a interpreter and didn't have a problem. Most ppls wpuld just hang up or be plain rude. Kim and kathy are the sweeties caring peraon and they will do anything for birds. I am fostering one of their bird name.frankie he a 2 years goffin cockatoo that is fulled.of love and funny. We are thinking to adopt him to be part of our families with love... My great neice brought a goffin cockatoo home. She was going to washington in a month. I couldnt take him. My hernia broke through my mesh, got two tears in my meniscus, should messed up. I called miss Kim she said she would take him. Didn't ask for money, as part of taking him. I'm glad she did we had a Lot of people wanting him, but no one who knew how to do it right. I have visited EAST several times but the most memorable was my first visit. They had just recently taken in two very large macaws and watching Kim with them and seeing how much they trusted her right from the start was fantastic. Every bird at EAST is treated like a unique individual because every bird has their own story.

A little while after I first moved to Nashville, I found myself needing an avian influence in my life. I have always been fascinated by the quirks and habits of parrots. To me they are breathtaking animals; physical manifestations of eccentricity and each an individual behavioral jigsaw.
I did what we millenials do and started searching Google for a place that might potentially accept me as a volunteer. I was surprised at how few sanctuaries for parrots exist; even in a city as large as Nashville, there is only E.A.S.T.
As I eagerly waited for Kim Hannah to reply to my email, I poured over the sanctuary's Facebook page and was amazed by what I saw. The recovery stories alone made the decision for me. I knew this was the place where I wanted to be. However, I could have never prepared myself for actually walking through the door for the first time. Kim invited me up and I was rendered pretty speechless by them all; by their number, their voices, their intellect, their beauty, and their history. As she gave me the tour, I saw my own curiosity reflected back through every single pinning pupil. And I loved it.
Today I've been a volunteer at E.A.S.T. for almost a year. I've never met a human with a bigger heart than Kim Hannah, whose dedication, devotion, and love for these animals has no boundary. Everything she does is for them and she is my hero.
I had my first lovebird named "jasper" for 13 years. In 2013, I lost him. I couldn't bare to live without parrot. My husband and I saw what seemed to be lonely young green cheek conure at the local pet store. We did what we thought was right and we brought her home and named her FeeBee. After a few months, we wanted to get her a friend. i did a "google" search on local parrot adopts/sanctuaries. This led us to E.A.S.T. A few short weeks later we met with Kim Hannah and Kathy Floyd. These two women are the most selfless and devoted women that we know. Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee would not be the same without them. This is and 24 hour 7 days a week, rain or shine devotion. These scared, neglected, often abused parrots flourish under E.A.S.T. We are honored to know Kim and Kathy. My husband and I have adopted 12 parrots, over the past few years, from E.A.S.T. Our lives would not be the same without them. It would be empty. Thank you E.A.S.T!
I recently had to rehome my parrots, after having them for 19 years. It was (and still is) a heart-breaking experience. Kim was wonderful to work with and found a fantastic home for one of my birds, and my other bird is currently in her care as she seeks a home for him. She is doing essential work for these beautiful birds and their owners.
I found EAST after doing a google search for bird rescues in my area. I reached out about becoming a foster and filled out an application. After a thorough process to ensure I was a good candidate, I was able to come meet the birds and find someone who would fit in with my household. After a couple visits, an adorable Senegal came home with me. Long story short, I am now her forever home. EAST is an amazing rescue that ensures the birds are the top priority.
The ladies of EAST are 2 of the most selfless, compassionate people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The time and the energy and finances that they devote to these parrots is beyond measure. We have been fortunate enough to adopt 2 beautiful parrots from them. They put so much of themselves and their huge hearts into what they do, and it is 24/7 dedication. They deal with heartbreak every day, and they keep on doing it. I cannot say enough about my feelings for these ladies and what they do.
