I've been volunteering with Everybody Wins! Iowa for three years now and I cannot say enough good things about this organization! Through my roles volunteering and now participating on this organization's board, I see firsthand what great things EWI does in the community. For two years I read with a young student, and saw him transform from an uncertain learner, to one who now loves to read. This year my student "graduated" out of the program, but I have the chance to begin reading with a new student and starting the journey over.

Everybody Wins makes the volunteer process early, and I find myself looking forward to my lunch hour spent reading each week. Volunteers can even partner to share reading duties if they are concerned about the commitment of a monthly reading program.

I've mentored with Everybody Wins for about 5-6 years. It is such an easy organization to work with. Despite the minimal time commitments required, you can still see how impactful the time spent with the students can be. It is an enjoyable experience for both mentor and student.

Spending time reading and bonding with my buddy has been the most rewarding experience I've had in a long time. It's easy to see progress in my student, without having to have "expertise" in teaching reading skills - just a genuine love for reading and helping children in need. It's also an easy time commitment - just one lunch break per week.

Everybody Wins! Iowa has to be the easiest and most rewarding way to give back to your community. It only takes one hour reading with your child each week to see a noticeable difference in their reading levels, confidence, and overall well-being. My reading buddy looks forward to updating me on his week and what's going on in school. That has led us to forging a partner reading experience, where we take turns reading out loud instead of just me doing all the talking. I know that means this mentorship has had an impact on him -- and of course, it has had an impact on me, too!

I started mentoring with Every Wins! Iowa a little over a year ago, and it's just been a joy. It's fun to get out in the community and share my love of reading with so many young students. Some are just learning to read and love having books read to them. Others are good little readers but really enjoy the encouragement and support of a mentor. Whether I'm reading in a 6-week summer program or spending a half hour or so with a student each week during the school year, I know I'm guaranteed to make a new little friend that will happily spend some time with me wrapped up in a good book. As an added bonus, the program is flexible and accommodates small interruptions from things like appointments and vacations, and the staff is always accessible.

I have been volunteering with Everybody Wins for 3 years now - and I love reading with my paired student! To watch her grow in her love of reading has been great and I am not sure that it would have happened without the help of Power Read. She has become a more confident and enthusiastic reader. I am excited to start this year's reading off this month, and I am sure she is, too!

I've been a reading mentor with EWI for close to 9 years. I've been paired with several students over the years and get so much joy in seeing their reading improvement throughout the school year. Having the one-on-one interaction is so valuable for many of these students who aren't getting that level of personal attention anywhere else. Reading is so important for overall success in school and life, and I'm more than happy to share my time helping these students succeed as well as understand that reading can be such a fun pastime.

I have been volunteering for 10 years with the organization. Reading with a student one hour a week is such a rewarding and effective use of time. Building a one-one relationship with a student and seeing them improve their reading skills over the year is so wonderful!.

I first discovered Everybody Wins! Iowa while working at an event that helps non-profits tackle technology problems in a 48 hour hackathon. Their mission really resonated with me as I greatly enjoyed reading growing up and I was blessed to have my mom as my mentor and being able to read voraciously greatly expanded the possibilities for my future. I've continued to work with them after the event and I'm always impressed with how hard they are working to raise funds to be able to give the kids an opportunity to have a mentor as well as supplying them with a variety of books to read to accommodate all levels of skill from kindergarten through 4th or 5th grade.

When I retired I needed a little more to do than what I was doing. I looked on line for volunteer opportunities and came across Everybody Wins - Iowa! I have been a reading mentor for three years. It is fun to try to find just the right book for my reading friend. He eats lunch. I read. And, we both have a great time enjoying a good book and a good friendship!

I have been a Mentor with Everybody Wins! Iowa for many years. It is so rewarding to see students blossom during their time in the Power Read Program. As a volunteer, the staff makes it easy for me to focus on reading and building a long-term relationship with my student. The materials and support provided help me to be the best mentor I can be. I love being a Mentor with Everybody Wins! Iowa. It's a highlight of my week.

This is an excellent organization. There is a high need for programs like this. I truly enjoy reading with students and helping them improve reading. There are so many dedicated volunteers but could still use more, specifically male mentors. I recommend volunteering to be a reading mentor.

Everybody Wins! Iowa is an amazing organization! I'm just starting my third year as a Power Read mentor and it's one of my favorite parts of my week! I love getting to know the student I'm paired with over lunch and see them become a more confident reader and develop a passion for reading. This organization is changing lives!

I have been lucky enough to have been part of this worthwhile organization for 10+ years. It is a win/win - reading to a child every week makes such an impact - to both the child and the mentor!
