Everybody Wins! Atlanta is a great volunteer opportunity for the busy professional. It is practically a turnkey experience. My time with my student is so important, we read, we laugh, we talk, we enjoy each other's company. There is no better way to enhance a child's self worth than spending time with her/him! The formula is straightforward, simple -- one student, one book, awesome results. The Board experience has been very worthwhile. The Board is intent on providing value to the organization and seldom loses its focus on what's important -- serving the child!
Everybody Wins Atlanta is an amazing organization. It goes into schools where it is truly needed, sets up shop, puts down roots, and stays with that school to provide real, measurable results (e.g., reading scores going up). Through the power lunch program, over the years, I have been paired with a student who I have followed through her elementary school years. Once a week, during lunch, I drive to her school, and simply read to her. Such a simple task with such a high payoff - both for me and her.
