After visiting the cats at an adoption event on Saturday we were set on taking home a pair of bonded kittens. Went out and purchased all the cat supplies. We are not from NY and noticed a lot of people have indoor/outdoor cats and figured that was the norm here. On the application they ask if your cat will be an indoor, indoor/outdoor, outdoor, barn cat, or something else. My 14 year old was filling out the application and marked indoor/outdoor. When they responded they said they can only allow indoor cat owners, I replied that was fine, We would be happy to comply with that. Well at the adoption event I was speaking with one of the volunteers and informed her in passing it had been almost 15 years since we owned a cat. I had a lot of questions about the cats there and asked different volunteers in conversation if they were fixed/declawed/ vaccinated etc… I spoke with one lady in particular and asked if the cats are declawed and she said no that they stopped doing that as it was particularly painful for the cats. I said oh okay! And then was telling her a story about being scratched by my cats hind claws when I was a young girl (about 11 years old) while trying to bathe him, as a funny anecdotal story (learning you do not need to bathe a cat)... The conversation ended at that & she asked if I had seen an older orange cat named Terri. Well I sent a follow up email that night asking about the kittens we had wanted to adopt and she replied this morning. She said that knowing I had declawed my cat (which was NOT my decision as an EIGHT year old child THIRTY YEARS AGO in 1993!!!) that they would not adopt to me and my family. Oh and in that same conversation I had mentioned how my cat loved to sunbathe in my backyard during his last years of life to warm his bones (a 16/17 year old low mobility cat who was always in our sight with our back door open). My kids are extremely heartbroken and I feel so sad for the kittens. There were TONS there that needed A loving home and we would have gladly given that to them. There are many other stories like mine in greatnonprofits.org they’re dba is under every dogs dream.

They have the sweetest cats, so I applied for one a few months ago. Never heard back, so after about a week, I emailed them. And got one response! Which I then replied to, adding a question of my own ... only to hear nothing back, even after reaching out to them several more times.

When sharing my experience, I learned that several other people (including those certified to work with animals, who should be more than qualified to adopt!) had stories like mine, often ending in either being completely ghosted (like me) or flat-out denied over the most minor of "issues." (in quotations because they aren't really issues at all)

I'm disappointed, but I also feel really bad for the cats-- they have to stay in the shelter, sometimes for several months or even years, and not a loving home. It's not fair to them.

Unless something changes, I will not be recommending this place for pet adoption.

Applied for a special needs cat that they have had for a year and a half. Denied based on the fact I live more then 75 miles away from the facility. Didmt bother to look at the facts of my application. Very unfortunate as my family was really looking forward to giving this overly deserving cat a chance for a happy, loving home for the holidays. Ecpecially after being at a shelter so long. Unfortunately his loss. Overall a waste of time. Adopted from several and never had this kind of experience.

I would NOT recommend adopting from this place. Their office is never open and they don’t help you. I filled out an application after going to their event because I found two kitties that I fell in love with. My application was denied because they asked if I wanted a indoor cat or and indoor/outdoor cat. I said indoor/outdoor thinking it would benefit my application. They said they wanted all there cats to be indoor therefore I was denied. I sent them an email saying I would honor that. They didn’t care and told me good luck looking somewhere else. This place seems like a non profit scam. Two employees have complained they have close to 1,000 animals, however they make it impossible for people adopt.

I emailed, filled out applications, called, left messages, even called Petco to speak with the volunteers about adopting 2 cats. I was told someone would get back in touch with me. I followed up with another email and finally received a reply they were adopted by another family. It would have been nice to know I was not a first candidate as I check petfinder several times a day. I’ll never recommend this facility and will go somewhere else to find a forever friend.

We adopted two kittens from Every Dogs Dream yesterday and the entire process went very smoothly. My wife contacted them on a Sunday by email explaining that we were looking to adopt two kittens, preferably siblings. They replied on Monday with a picture of two brothers and directed her to fill out an application. She did and we were approved the next day. The kittens had a vet appointment on Friday, so we arranged to take them home Saturday. All went according to plan, no problems, we had them 5 days after initial contact, and we love our kittens.

Their intentions are good but don't bother trying to adopt from this organization. Unless you own your home, have a fully fenced in yard and they like you they won't approve your application. I adopted my dog from them over six years ago but only after I argued with them. I don't have a fenced yard, I have a dog run. Just for the record my dog has her own afftghan that was crocheted just for her, has regular vet checkups and eats high quality dog food. She is pampered and loved. Also don't bother calling them if you find a stray. They will tell you they are full and turn you away. Therefore I will no longer support them with donations. My donation is the loving home I have given my dog and a stray cat they didn't have room for. I would rather spend my money on them. I am not a cruel person and my son and daughter in law are very involved with this shelter. But I will never go to them again.

So unhappy with this place... we were denied a dog without a home visit and during the process none of our emails for an update on our application were answered until we complained... would not recommend this place to anyone !

I have been volunteering as a foster for over 2 years and now at the adoption center for over 3 months and am amazed at the passion the president has for the animals. She cares about their well-being as though they were her own children. This means making tough calls on adoptions. What Every Dog's Dream does for the community is an invaluable service and it is all done by volunteers. Not one person is paid for their time. This means all donations go to the animals and their care. I look forward to volunteering here for many years to come.

Sadly I have not had a good experience. My 72 year old mother was rejected after waiting for 9 days to hear from this organization. Of course after she went and visited an older cat 3 times. She was told she needed vet establishment. So my mother went and got established w a vet and drove herself to drop the paperwork off to them. Later that day, she got a call saying she is not approved. I have tried to contact this organization 6 times and no one returns your calls. I had to finally go to the petco and speak with The cat adopter,. After speaking with a The one who is in charged of making cat adoptions, she said that she still wouldn't let my mom adopt. My mom had tried to keep a feral cat indoors and save it. That cat kept breaking out on her. After we made sure that cat was ok and staying with our nice neighbors as an outdoor cat, we then felt mom should have a companion. Sad. No wonder you have 9000 in vet bills you deny nice people.
