Equine808 came into my life when my family needed it most. We learned so much about the care and knowledge of horses and became regular volunteers. The staff were great and the horses were fun to get to know. Equine808 will always hold a special place in our hearts. The program not only rehabilitated the horses, but brought my family closer. Who knew shoveling muck was therapeutic!! :-) Betina and Cleveland are the best and we consider them dear friends.

My daughter started riding there over 4 years; She formed close attachments to several of the horses and she was able to use her riding time as therapy-it helps calm and relax her and grow her confidence. Through out the years, Bettina and her volunteer staff has been very supportive of her. The staff is love their volunteer jobs and they work very hard to help with animals heal in a loving, supportive environment.

As a volunteer for Equine 808, I feel that I've been able to effect change, not only in the organization but also for the animals. The rescue in Hawaii hosts horses, donkeys, goats, cats, chickens, ducks, pigs and any other animal that needs a home. The volunteers adapt and overcome a variety of crises on a daily basis, the most common being money. It is awesome to be around a group of people who's main goal is to help the animal no matter what. I've had such a good experience in Hawaii that I hope to work with the Colorado Rescue when I move next year.

I have been volunteering at the rescue since the summer of 2012. From the very beginning everyone there was very welcoming and easy to get along with. All the volunteers are completely focused on the animals and their well being. The rescue is a great organization for oahu. Thanks to everyone there for making my time worthwhile. i would volunteer there again in a heartbeat.

My daughter has been with Equine 808 since 2006. Our first experience was through Horse Camp that was being offered. After that she began with individual horseback riding lessons and has since moved on to volunteering once a week out at the ranch. Her experience out there has been so rewarding as she has learned how to care for and handle horses and other animals. She learned about abandoned and abused horses and how to care for animals in need. This is a much needed program here on the island and the only rescue of it's kind in the area. Our family have all participated in the past 7 years. Anna helps with anything and everything out at the ranch where she is needed. They are professional and have a sincere desire to help the animals and look at the needs of each and every animal at the ranch. The staff have a good bond and work well together which makes spending time at the rescue enjoyable. My daughter enjoys just being out with the animals but is glad she can help while having a good time.

I started working with this rescue in mid 2012. I have continued volunteering ever since. I had started out not knowing anything about horses. Them I enrolled in some lessons with Betina. I had thought that she was going to teach me how to ride. She did, but I ended up learning more of the important stuff first. Before I even got.to touch the horses, my dad and I learned to muck and clean the stalls. Then I learned haltering and leading, before shasing and grooming. Finally I leaned how to ride. My point is, Betina and the rest of the rescue don't just focuse on the fun parts of owning a horse. They really emphasize that sponsoring or adoptingoadopting one is a lot of hard work. In December of 2012, I sponsored one of their horses, Patience. This was a trial run to see if a could handle of the hard work owning a horse brings up. In June of 2013, my parents surprised me by adopting Patience. Equine 808 has taught me so much, and now I get to use that knowledge while riding my new horse in rodeos and just for plain taking care of him. A year and a half ago, I didn't know anything about horses. Now I own and take care of one. That's the power that Betina and Equine 808 poses.

Equine 808 is a well established horse rescue and boarding facility. We started volunteering about 2 years ago and eventually boarding one of our own horses at the ranch. The staff and Betina take great pride and care in their work, caring for rescues as well as boarder's horses. The horse rescue provides opportunities to educate the public and the ability to adopt one of the many horses in the program. Equine 808 works closely with the Humane Society as well as other organizations, vets to provide the horses with the best possible care.

I started volunteering at Equine 808 in 2011. From the start I was very impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of Betina and all the core members there. Even with limited resources it was a smooth process and always revolved around what would best benefit the animals. I've had horses almost my whole life, training and competing in multiple different disciplines but going to this facility, retraining and working horses and sponsoring one of them myself it was still a wonderful experience. Theres a very open mindset towards all different methods and views and everybody is willing to listen and learn from each other.

I have Known Betina for about 2 years now. I went to her rescue to volunteer not knowing much about horses or what she and the rescue did. I had some bad experiences with horses and had fears, I explained this to her, I thought she would turn me away instead she smiled and said you have come to the right place. Not only does she rescue horses from bad situations, she rescues people too. She has helped me and so many other people. She and the rescue staff helped me overcome my fears and gave me confidence in myself and my ability to work with horses. She helps horses understand and learn to trust people. Not only does the rescue medically take care of the horses but emotionally and mentally too. I’ve seen Bettina and the rescue staff wake up early in the morning work all day long rain or shine into the late evening without complaint. But it doesn’t stop there cause when everyone else goes home and relaxes Betina goes home and puts many hours on the computer and phone calls and doing paperwork on top of everything else she does. She never complains and always puts 100% effort in. The rescue has helped so many people and horses out and everyone that comes in contact with the rescue becomes family. I support everything Betina and this rescue stands for. The rescue takes in abused horses, most people would just say put them down, because they don’t want to spend the money and time to rehabilitate the horse. The rescue spends countless hours working with each horse’s individual needs. The rescue makes every effort possible to rehabilitate a horse.

I believe that Equine 808 is one of the best equine rescues in the nation. Not only because of the compassion and dedication that thrives within this organization, but because this organization thrives in adversity. I have owned horses most of my life. I spent a great deal of time training my own horses and caring for them. Because of the experience I gained at Equine 808, I now have a job at a large training facility. I was a core volunteer for Equine 808 earlier this year and I can truly attest to the limited resources they have. Never have I imagined owning horses (let alone multiple special needs horses) without running water. But that's the shape Equine 808 was in when I first starting volunteering. I believe that even in this short time (since I've moved away) they have grown as a group and ultimately as an amazing organization. The volunteers here are some of the best people I have had the pleasure of meeting. They all have huge hearts, dedication and motivation. The fact that Equine 808 is the ONLY equine rescue in ALL of the hawaiian islands should speak volumes to their mission and determination. And from an insiders perspective, I can surely say that they are a legitimate rescue with legitimate love and compassion for the animals they take on. God Bless Equine 808 Ohana!

I have known Betina Tacorante-Parker for over 20 years, she has had horses for as long as I have known her. I remember her mother showing me pictures of her riding in parades when she was a young girl. So it was of no surprise when she announced that she was taking on the challenge of opening a rescue center in Hawaii. With much determination and an amazing staff and volunteers she was able to leave the Hawaii operation in good hands and expand to Colorado. The love and dedication that she puts into everything she does, the care that she gives these beautiful animals is unbelievable and heart rendering. I happily support Equine 808, it's mission, and the endless benefits that it brings to our area. Please help me spread the word for all the abused, unloved, and neglected horses and other animals that cannot speak for themselves.
