The Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut, which runs Indian Rock and the Barnes Nature Center, does a stellar job of preserving critical open space in Central Connecticut, educating young people about the environment and the natural world and opening eyes to the wonders around us. Its officials work for relatively low pay, put in long hours and show their love for the place and the people who use day in and day out. It's hard to imagine a nonprofit that is more committed to its mission. I can't say enough about how terrific this organization is.
