Causes: Environment, Environmental Education
Mission: At eeco it is our mission to be a leader in the promotion and facilitation of environmental education (ee), and to nurture knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. We want a healthy and sustainable environment, and the key to this is education. Through eeco, individuals and groups are not only educated, but also develop partnerships with other individuals and organizations. These partnerships strengthen ee in ohio, leading to a more environmentally literate population and a healthier environment. You are welcome to become a partner and friend. Programs: The purpose of ohio environmental education fund (oeef) is to support a program in ohio which enhances the objective understanding of issues affecting environmental quality, with major emphasis on promoting quality environmental education for students and teachers in preschool through grade 12, nonformal educators,and for the development of university curriclum which focuses on the needs of preschool through grade 12 audiences. The environmental education council of ohio is a statewide organization in ohio for environmental educators. We have established a strong network of environmental educators in twelve regions around ohio. With support from oeef we have:1) completed 78 workshops and short sessions in reaching over 7000 educators. 2)completed 22 special events with over 6000 participants3)published and dispersed a fall and winter issues of the qrtly partnership newsletter to members,school contacts and at regional workshops and conferences. The number printed for each edition was 3000. 4)completed year 2 of the environmental advancement and training project 3 grant. 5)all regions have made proposals to underserved audiences for the ohio epe-oeef and eetap. 6)regional directors have created teams that address environmental issues for their regions. These include urban and minority, social studies, early childhood, high school and language arts, adult audiences and preservice teacher education for college students. Also added career mentoring and adult education.
