Mission: EMI is an association of Christian design professionals volunteering to serve the world’s poor with our unique expertise. We are architects, engineers, surveyors, construction managers and other professionals who can make a difference. We donate our technical skills to organizations that are helping the poor and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We design safe, functional, and reliable facilities that help these organizations fulfill their calling. We collaborate with local designers whenever possible to build local capacity and learn from each other. We transform the lives of the poor by designing hospitals, orphanages, schools, water systems, and other life-giving facilities that express the love of God. EMI is designing a world of hope for a world in need.
Programs: Emi is a technical resource for other mission organizations around the world, both in development and disaster relief contexts. In 2014, emi worked on 71 projects in 22 countries, sending out teams that totalled 162 volunteers and 58 interns. These projects represent design work that will enable the construction of hospitals, schools, orphanages, water pipelines, ministry centers, youth camps, churches and places to live for some of the poorest people in the hardest to reach corners of the world. From helping establish clean water stations in the typhoon aftermath in the philippines, to helping design a school in uganda, to helping restore miles of a failed water pipeline in rural malawi - emi teams provided technical and strategic design assistance to many clients in a variety of critical times and places.
