Mission: The primary exempt purpose of endo option africa, inc is to provide endodontic training and equipment to dentists in under served areas of africa. The objectives are to 1) locate areas that are underserved, specifically where dental treatment is offered, but does not include endodontic procedures as an option to save teeth, 2) assess the existing services and upgrade to allow endodontic treatment as an option. Upgrades will include training of existing personnel and upgrading equipment and 3) periodically monitoring programs to ensure continuity and sustainability of treatment protocols.
Programs: In 2017, endo option africa set up two endodontic operatories in botswana, africa. One operatory was in gaborone and the other was in at the bamalete mission hospital in ramotswa. These operatories were stocked with all the latest endodontic equipment and supplies. Eighteen government dentists were trained on how to do root canal treatment, which was critical, because prior to receiving training, teeth were extracted, rather than restored. Five days were spent one-on-one in preclinical training with plastic teeth. Each day, prior to preclinical training, the dentists received lectures on varying subjects, such as dental anatomy, diagnosis, access openings, cleaning, shaping, and obturation. The dentists were then trained for two weeks, one-on-one, to perform root canals on patients, with supervision and assistance. The private dentists practicing in gaborone and francistown, botswana also received two five hour lectures on how to perform endodontic treatment.
