Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services, Youth Development Programs

Mission: The mission of the Enchanted Closet is to physically, mentally, and emotionally outfit Metro Atlanta high school girls from low-income families through programs that prepare them for social and professional milestones.

Results: The Enchanted Closet is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit service organization that benefits the girls of metropolitan Atlanta and other cities as far as Macon, Georgia. Founded in January 2003, the Enchanted Closet began as a small community service project that collaborated with Macy’s department store to provide donated prom dresses to high school girls who could not afford to pay retail prices. The Enchanted Closet’s philosophy is that no girl should miss out on the most “enchanting” moments in her life because of her family’s economic hardship. This simple idea has made a significant impression on the lives of over 6,500 metro Atlanta and Georgia girls who received dresses from the Enchanted Closet, and it has blossomed into the organization providing dresses year-round for homecoming dances, JROTC balls, cotillions, and even milestone celebrations for mothers in residential treatment for substance abuse. The organization further aids a diverse population of girls through its GIRL$ Service-Learning Program. The program was designed to help increase the self awareness, self esteem, and self sufficiency of girls. Girls attend monthly sessions which focus on economic and social entrepreneurship, and they engage in community service. Greater focus on these areas will bring a reduction in high-risk behavior that contributes to low academic performance/ school drop out, teen pregnancy, sexual exploitation, abuse, STDs and other things that adversely affect the lives of teens, their familiies, and the community. The Enchanted Closet helps to prepare girls for real challenges by equipping them with self-awareness, confidence, and life skills. I have volunteered several times and each time I've been impressed with the execution of the programs and the impact that they had on the girls. Girls are engaged, articulate, and eager to participate. I commend the CEO and all who contribute to making a significant difference in girls' lives.

I volunteered with this organization for several years. I’ve witnessed first hand how The Enchanted Closet has impacted young girls in the Metro Atlanta community. The annual dress drive is the signature event, where girls are outfitted for prom and given dresses, shoes and accessories to attend their proms in the spring. However, throughout the school year, there are numerous other programs that help give girls opportunities to learn and grow socially and emotionally. The Enchanted Closet is a meaningful and impactful organization and deserves recognition for the work they've accomplished over the years with young ladies ages 12 to 18 and beyond. I give it all the stars. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️

This organization has definitely made a difference in so many lives across the Metro Atlanta area. I've seen first hand how young ladies blossomed from shy little girls into well spoken, confident and articulate young ladies. This organization not only helps families financially when it comes to making prom dreams come true, but mentally enlightens and motivates young ladies to follow their dreams and be the best they can be.

Enchanted Closet Inc. Is a constant presence in the community, focusing on building confidence and mentoring young women and boys. What started off as a way to ensure that all young women and young men had an opportunity to participate in proms has grown into a holistic approach to ensuring that these young women and men from low income communities are exposed to many facets of self development and opportunities to grow. This organization has the support of so many well known individuals and organizations in the community because of its accomplishments and mission. The name of the organization doesn't fully capture who they are and the outstanding work they continue to deliver.

I've been involved with this organization for several years and it has consistently served the metropolitan Atlanta community in the most positive of ways. It caters to low and middle income families that may not have the funds to provide formal attire for their girls. They may be stuck making tough choices as to what bills they will not pay in order to pay for their girls to go prom. Enchanted Closet eliminates the stress that these families may have at prom time. The organization has saved Atlanta families over $1,750,000 since 2003 by providing over 6500 dresses to girls. In addition, to providing formal attire, the organization has a GIRL$ Service-Learning Program that provides girls, ages 12-19 years old, the tools for enhance self awareness, self esteem, and self sufficiency. In a time when girls are exposed to so many negative influences in society, it is so important that they be exposed to people who will help elevate their self esteem and self worth to decrease the likelihood that they will fall prey to societal influences that lead to teen pregnancy, school dropout, drug usage, etc. The Enchanted Closet has provided a supportive, nurturing, educational environment where girls are empowered, exposed to greater possibilities, and experience life changing moments that has led them to believe in themselves, start peer led programs at their schools, community organizations, graduate from high school, go to college (many the first in their families) and start businesses. This is powerful life changing organization!

The Enchanted Closet is a very small organization that does huge things in the lives of metropolitan Atlanta girls and the community. Saving families over $60,000 annually, the Enchanted Closet is a valuable resource in metropolitan Atlanta allowing girls who may not otherwise be able to go to prom, homecoming, and other milestone occasions to have these special memories. Nearly 6000 girls have been outfitted for the enchanting moments in their middle and high school lives. Hundreds of girls have gained vital mentoring through the GIRL$ Program. The program ensures that girls are empowered with self awareness, self esteem, and self sufficiency necessary to not fall prey to societal ills and to make valuable contributions to society. With the great addition of the STEM programming in 2012, the organization continues to expose many girls to possibilities they did not know existed!

Serving with this organization has been invaluable. Being blessed to use my knowledge and skills to bless young girls has been one of my greatest joys. The organization has been life impacting for over 7000 girls and their families. A significant accomplishment for 2018 was awarding of college scholarships at an end of school year celebration. With the help of the public and wonderful businesses including the TJX Foundation and Marshall's Distribution Center, the organization will continue to serve and make a difference.

I'd love for my daughter to benefit from such a reputable & rewarding foundation. I'm very skeptical about certain non-profits, but the transparencies which I see as a "on-looker has definitely inspired me to become a volunteer.
I'm amazed at the several opportunities Enchanted Closet has given to the girls of Atlanta; which many who wouldn't otherwise had. It's contribution is back by many credible sponsors. The basic premise of inspiring girls & young women to reach their full potential in all areas of their life despite their situation is exactly what Enchanted Closet embodies.

I’ve tried many different mentorship and enrichment programs for my introverted teenaged daughter, to no avail. None held her interest or attention. She LOVED the Enchanted Closet from the first event and looks forward, with eagerness, to every chance to meet. I am so grateful for the amazing work this organization is doing in the lives of young women! Kudos to Bonita Johnson and her team for their leadership and vision.

The Enchanted Closet is the only non profit organization that has been continuously on the move since 2003. I have volunteered on a couple of occasions and during the time I saw so much excitement from the participants. Not only does the Enchanted Closet help prepare young teens for proms it helps them with their self esteem as well as help promote them for the real world. Most of the participants go on to college because of the various activities they have participated in. I commend the CEO and founder for sharing her vision with the world. I can see this vision moving global. I recommend that anyone who has a young daughter sign them up and get them motivated to become an active participant. Praises to the CEO and all of the volunteers who engage constantly. I can’t wait until I get some extra time in my day to pay it forward to TEC. On a scale of 1-10 I rate TEC 10.

I volunteer on the Enchanted Closet's Program Development Committee. This group works together to develop and deliver programming throughout every month during the school year to help increase the self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-sufficiency of girls. I coordinated the organization's October GIRL$ program, "Tell Me, Then Show Me," which was designed to reduce the fear of public speaking and help girls to confidently express themselves in front of others. The program involved multiple presenters, including a 10-year old motivational speaker, and ended with an improv workshop. At the start of the program, the girls were hesitant to volunteer to answer questions or present in front of the group. By the end of the program, every girl in the room was volunteering to be heard. It was truly amazing to see the girls blossom in such a short period of time. I know in my heart that the Enchanted Closet changed lives that day as they do with all of their programming.

The Enchanted Closet is a volunteer-run organization that has impact. I enjoy serving with women that are innovative and have a heart for the girls of Atlanta. The GIRLS program provides life skills and exposure to program participants and the Prom Dress giveaway ensures that no girl misses her prom because of financial limitations. The Enchanted Closet truly supports girls - both inside and out! Glad to be apart of this organization!

I came this event a week before my prom not necessarily expecting very much. I understood that this was a free service and thought the best I could hope for was a dress that fit. This was so much more than that. The dresses all were gorgeous, but beyond that, the "fairy godmothers" all were super committed to making sure I felt good about the dress I walked away with and beautiful in it. I must have tried on maybe 6 different dresses before settling on one. Still after they even matched me with jewelry and hair barrets. Honestly, I don't think my prom experience could have at all been any better.

Enchanted Closet made my daughter's prom experience amazing. The personal shopper helped her select the perfect dress, shoes and accessories. It was so much more than she could have dreamed. More importantly the programing that makes their "brains beautiful" enrich them far beyond prom. Thanks Enchanted Closet. I look forward to volunteering next year.

Enchanted Closet is a wonderful organization that has a major impact on girls in metropolitan Atlanta. I had the privilege to serve the Enchanted Closet both as a board member and a volunteer. I've personally seen the positive impact in the girls that attend the annual Prom Dress Giveaway or the monthly GIRL$ Service-Learning Program. The Board Members and Volunteers possess a genuine interest in the organization's mission to physically, mentally, and emotionally outfit Metro Atlanta high school girls from low-income families through programs that prepare them for social and professional milestones.

During this time I have watched the dedication and commitment of its CEO, Board Members, volunteers, partners and others in the mission of providing expertise and programs that inspire and motivate young ladies in the Metro Atlanta area.
