S. Is perhaps the most diverse country on the planet. Omaha, nebraska carries that mark of distinct diversity. While there are some non-profit organizations addressing the needs of diverse culture groups in the city, embrace the nations remains unique. Based on a holistic model, this non-profit not only addresses physical needs, but literacy and spiritual needs among international students, refugees and immigrants. The vision statement for embrace the nations includes building relationship with the international community in our city. This is done by: -befriending international students. -assisting refugees and immigrants. -helping omaha churches use their resources to effectively impact international populations. -using medical outreach to open doors that otherwise would remain closed. -helping others understand what it means to be culturally aware and sensitive. The physical needs of the international community are varied and many. Some of the ways embrace the nations has impacted this area is through: assisting with job security, supplying funds for medical prescriptions, food, clothing, household items, baby essentials and more. Literacy needs remain an on-going process where most refugees who enter the country have little knowledge of the english language. Many international students struggle in their english skills as well. It has been determined it takes three years to reach a level of conversing comfortably. Embrace the nations has and will continue to offer esl type classes (english as a second language). In meeting spiritual needs, embrace the nations provides the gospel of jesus christ in a way that can be understood. This is done through: -understanding how western culture differs from other cultures. -sharing the gospel in a culturally contextual way when appropriate. -using teaching tools such as bibles studies, bibles, the jesus film and music that are language specific. -providing support and discipleship for those who choose to follow jesus christ. Embrace the nations also promotes cultural awareness by educating healthcare providers, church members and other organizations and businesses on the topic of cultural awareness and about the different people groups living in our city.
