Mission: Through partnerships and the work of thousands of elks members, the commission was able to serve thousands of veterans through programs that help hospitalized veterans recover and thrive, provide veterans with resources to exit or prevent homelessness, support military families, meet the needs of military members and assist veterans and military members in need in elks communities througout the nation.
Programs: The commission partnered with the us department of veterans affairs and other social service organizations to provide homeless veterans and veterans at risk of being homeless with the emergency assistance they needed to become or remain housed, and to provide home supplies and other material support to newly housed veterans.
the commission partnered with elks state associations and lodge-level volunteers to provide funds for the benefit of hospitalized veterans and veterans with disabilities in veterans administration facilities, state veterans homes, domicilaries, usos and other veterans centers throughout the nation. These programs included coordination of social outings, educational activities, therapeutic recreation, volunteer and other support at outreach events and more. It also includes the procurement of material support such as adaptive equipment, personal hygiene items, clothes and other personal items for individual veterans, as well as facility-wide donations such as entertainment systems and computer equipment for job training and other activities.
the commission provided grants of up to $2,000 to approximately 180 elk lodges to facilitate programs that support veterans, active-duty military members and their families. Elks used these grants to provide food and clothing for homeless and hospitalized veterans, hold adaptive sports events for veterans with disabilities, repair the homes of military families and veterans in need, support student veterans and more.
