Mission: Elephant aid international (eai) works hands-on with mahouts (elephant trainers), tourist facilities, elephant welfare groups, researchers and government officials to improve elephant welfare, in captivity and in situ, as well as the lives of the mahouts and their families that care for them. Eai teaches mahouts and owners compassionate elephant management, a more humane non-abusive system of caring for and training captive elephants. Eai teaches mahouts and owners proper foot care techniques in order to prevent osteomyelitis (terminal foot disease), vital to maintaining elephants' overall health. Eai also plans to establish care centers (sanctuaries) in india for former zoo elephants needing homes. These activities, all of which are conducted by eai staff, further the organization's tax exempt purpose by educating mahouts how to create a more balanced, respectful and cooperative relationship with their elephants and provide a safe and healthy environment for their elephants
Programs: Elephant aid international provides elephant welfare consultation and elephant foot care services in the form of pedicures, elephant training and mahout tutoring.
