I had a terrible experience as a volunteer foster home for this organization. I had an older chihuahua for eight months. He struggled with several issues, distrust of men, marking, not potty trained, wined at night, barked far too much, was uninterested in playing with other dogs or any people other than myself, nipping if people tried to pet him, issues with food and REFUSED to walk on leash. I spent a lot of energy helping him modify his behavior. Some improved, but some didn’t. He hadn't had his vaccines when he got to me which wasn't revealed until they were required for a weekend stay in a boarding facility. My communication with the founder of the rescue was limited and only brief texts. None about the dogs issues and often she was snarky, rude and generally unpleasant. During month eight, I started to try and nudge her regarding efforts to find him a forever home. She became nasty via text, stated she had a home for him and scheduled pick up. If that were true, I would have been elated. It wasn’t. She put him in boarding, blocked me on fb and posted an awful post regarding the care I provided for the dog. Her conclusions were all related to her inability to provide supervision and guidance to volunteer fosters, poor communication skills, guilt for making little to no effort to find him a home and just nasty attitude.
I knew she was lying to me regarding a home, I looked for something on fb and found a scathing post regarding the care I provided. Her assessment was completely inaccurate. She harmed the wellbeing of the animal because of her own ego and poor investigative skills. She called a reference on my application towards the end of the dogs 8 month stay. Maybe to “validate” her perceptions. She didn't get that confirmation. I found other mistreated volunteers with very similar stories.
I highly recommend potential foster volunteers look elsewhere for animal welfare agencies to support. Unappreciative, manipulative and just rude. The decisions made were personal and unfortunately left everyone involved upset. I hope the little guy finds his best life soon.
