Mission: EduSeed's mission is to promote education among historically disadvantaged groups such as women and people of color. EduSeed's program SisterMentors --- founded in September 1997 --- helps women of color complete their dissertations and get their doctorates. The women in turn, while in the program, give back by mentoring girls of color in middle and high schools. The women and girls are African American, Latina, Asian American and women and immigrants of color. Studies show that more than 50% of doctoral students of color drop out and that children of color are dropping out of school before graduating --- in some cases as high as 60%.Our goal is to help increase the number of women of color PhDs and inspire girls of color to stay in school, do well and go on to college. We have helped 26 women of color to get doctorates and mentored over 75 girls. In fall 2007, we sent our first group of girls off to college.
