Mission: The organization works to equip at-risk students with the knowledge, skills, resources, and networks that will enable them to successfully complete high school and attend post-secondary institution or begin a career. Education opens doors also supports teachers and parents with the necessary support and resources to facilitate a college-going culture and discussions with students.
Programs: Education opens doors achieves our mission by partnering with schools and quality after-school programs to implement the roadmap to success program. After a contractual agreement with the organization, partners are charged a reduced cost per student enrolled in the one-year program. For this cost, schools receive the self-guided student manuals and aligned implementation support including professional development, onsite visits, curriculum access through an online portal, and data analysis. This model is used because we believe that a school's "skin in the game," while the true cost to education opens doors is subsidized by fundraising, is critical to our model's success. Additional income for education opens doors is generated from generous private donors and grants from local private foundations that are invested in education reform. 3,707 manuals were sold during the year ended june 30, 2014.
