Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection

Mission: The pride initiative promotes personal responsibility in a desirable environment in 42 counties in southern and eastern kentucky. It links citizens with the resources of local, state, and federal agencies to improve the region's water quality, clean up solid waste problems, and advance environmental education.

Programs: Roadside cleanup and beautification - pride employees and volunteers pick up litter from roads, streams, parks, campuses, and other areas for scenic drives through the region's gorgeous foliage. Pride provides cleanup supplies upon request.

education and outreach - develop education partnerships, foster environmental involvement by young people, provide resources to support environmental education, enhance environmental literacy through the design, implementation, and support of environmental projects, and encourage through educational activities the understanding of actions beneficial to the environment.

technical assistance and training - training for solid waste managers, water and wastewater operators, and local government officials.

tourism - educate, expand, develop, and market the existing and potential tourism industry throughout southern and eastern kentucky, while contributing to the economic, cultural, growth, health and awareness, and overall quality of life of the region. Homeowner septic system - program provides septic systems for failing septic systems or straight pipes to low-income homeowners in established homes in the 42 counties served by pride.
