This place is amazing, from their loving and caring staff to their interns and clients, ETCIL shouts “we are here for you”. Assisting those that need help in areas of job search, independent living skills, communication, and so much more, ETCIL pulls out all of the stops for their clients. From showing interest in their personal growth to helping them with career choices, educating them on relevant issues for their lives, to being friends and helpers to them in any way they can, are just a few of the services ETCIL provides. ETCIL makes counseling available for those that benefit from that service as well as with basic math, reading and writing skills. Finally ETCIL promotes a strong sense of self worth among their clients as well as providing an atmosphere where clients are able to interact with others and make new friends. ETCIL management is top notch both in caring for their employees, volunteers, clients, and their families.
I was fortunate enough to do my internship through this amazing non-profit organization. At ETCIL we worked with clients on their individual set goals by creating activities that targeted skills such as math skills, social skills, time management skills and so much more. The staff at ETCIL provided me the experience needed to go into my future job confident in how to help disabled individuals. Staff set an excellent example of how to care for the clients and how to help them reach their set goals. 10/10 recommend ETCIL.
I have had the opportunity to work with the East Texas Center for Independent Living (ETCIL) for about 2 months now. I have really enjoyed getting to interact with the consumers who attend ETCIL. They all come in with a great attitude and a willingness to take part in the fun activities. The staff here is amazing, they truly care about each individual that comes through the door. I would highly recommend attending ETCIL if you are looking to improve your independent living skills!
This was for deaf translation service at my office for eye appointments. Cyndi Chamberlain did a fantastic job and was very professional.
My name is Kevin and I am very happy that Ms Joy and Dakota help me manage my money. I also do fun activities with Amy and Joanna
My favorite thing about coming here is the people. The staff members are nice, they always I check on you and see how we are doing. I wish I could come here everyday.
I like ETCIL because it's something the only thing I can do away from home during the week. Sometimes it can be fun just doing little things at ETCIL.
My son has been going to ETCIL for about a year now. I am so appreciative for the service ETCIL provides. In the short time that he has been attending classes I have already seen an improvement in my son. The staff members are great in working with the students and in providing their services.
I like everything about ETCIL. Some of my favorite activities have been the cooking classes. I enjoy being with my friends and getting out of the house!
One of my favorite things about coming to ETCIL is the holiday parties. I like playing all the fun games. I enjoy getting to come and spend time with everyone from class.
I like coming here because I try to learn as much as I can. I’ve learned how to manage my money a whole lot better than I used to. I’ve made a lot of friends here over the years. I’ve enjoyed the activities I’ve been in like the talent show and the potlucks. I still enjoy everything, and I’ve been coming here for about 3 or 4 years.
Forwarding this message received from a family member of a person with a disability: "I would like to submit this review for the attention of Mr. Jay Nichols. After contacting Mr. Nichols this morning, it was very refreshing to talk with someone personally about questions that I had, but more especially
to receive a wealth of information regarding my inquiries. He took a personal interest in my problems and provided the names of contacts to assist in resolving them. I was very impressed with Mr. Nichols' professional knowledge and the sincere interest he took in my call."
I have served as a volunteer in the skills center. I was so impressed with the caring and compassion shown to the consumers by Amy and Joanna. It is obvious that the consumers adore them as well. It wás a very gratifying experience and l hope to be able to continue being involved with this wonderful and much needed organization.
I had the opportunity to be there as an intern , Joana and Amy are excellent leaders and help the students develop the skills to be more self independent and help them develop social skills.
I had the opportunity to complete my undergraduate internship at ETCIL in the skills center, and I absolutely loved every minute of working both with the staff and the consumers. I was able to work with many individuals and help them take steps towards meeting their goals. My supervisors gave me many opportunities to use what I was learning in school and apply this knowledge to real-world situations. I enjoyed each class session I had the chance to be a part of. From playing games, having holiday parties, class discussions, and work on individual goals, there was never a dull moment when surrounded by such great people. Each Staff member on-site does their part to provide the consumers with the tools and knowledge they need to live their best lives and accomplish what they are working towards. Helping here brought a smile to my face each and every day! ETCIL is a great place to be!
