Mission: The mission of the east side arts council is to collaborate with our community and artists to celebrate and experience the arts.
Programs: Arts for youth: esacs free out of school time programming provides invaluable arts experiences to underserved youth on the east side. This year, approximately 1,000 visual arts, music, drama, and dance classes taught by professional artists were offered at 35 parks, rec centers, and public schools through the artsyes, artmobile, and anti-bullying summit programs, serving thousands of enthusiastic east side kids. Artists in schools: esac provided 13 professional artist residencies at east side schools in 2014 to infuse arts into the curriculum. The roster of talented artists included puppeteer malia burkhart, puppeteer mark safford, filmmaker kao choua vue, composer peter morrow, indian dancer mukta joshi, aztec dancer mary anne quiroz, west african dancer karla nweje, and liberian dancer edna stevens. In 2014, esac created and distributed a k-5 curriculum linking the arts to minnesota state standards in literacy, social studies, and science. This curriculum is also used in conjunction with field trips to esacs educational sculpture park at beacon bluff, which features pieces by gita ghei that demonstrate the water cycle and best practices in water filtration. Artist services: esac showcased the work of over 25 artists in our gallery. We hosted individual shows for artists, including diane may, david frederick, jacquelyn rosenbush, and tracie thompson. Artist trainings took place throughout the year and three artist lunch gatherings were held in the gallery focusing on sharing ideas. Esac provided work for more than 75 artists in 2014. Arts in the community: esac was awarded the 2014 blooming saint paul award for the phalen poetry park, which welcomes over 2,000 visitors each year. Esac was also nominated for the 2014 great places award for the sculpture park the hub, located at beaconbluff and featuring three scultpures by esac artists phillip blackburn and gita ghei. In 2014, esac hosted arts and crafts tables for the community at 8 community events during the spring and summer.
