Mission: Our mission is to promote social welfare and economic self-sufficiency for low-income households residing in the East Bay Area. In pursuit of it's mission, EOCDC's primary goal is to create a vehicle by which East Bay residents can become "change agents", by providing input and active participation into the proposed economic and community development activities that directly affect their communities. The mission statement of EOCDC expressly provides for the development and operation of affordable housing within the entire East Bay. EOCDC was incorporated in 1983, and reorganized in 1995, by local community residents. EOCDC works closely with the Central East Oakland Community Development District Board, the entity designated by the City of Oakland to allocate Community Development Block Grant funds for that section of the city. Some of EOCDC's board members are also members of the CD District Board. Therefore, EOCDC benefits from a strong community base and support for our proposed housing and community development initiatives that are currently planned for the CD District. EOCDC recent development activities have been expanded to include the entire East Bay Area.
Programs: International Boulevard Family Housing Initiative Phase I. This initiative, which began construction in October 2000, will create a total of 30 units of housing at two separate sites. This development represents an opportunity to provide critically needed affordable rental housing in East Oakland, while helping to revitalize the construction of new housing on two former blighted parcels located along the International Boulevard corridor. The development will feature seven one-bedroom units, eleven two-bedroom units, ten three-bedroom units, and two four-bedroom units. All units will be affordable to families at 40% of Area Median Income (AMI), and 13% of the units will be at 35%of AMI. Three units are set-aside for families and individuals who are living with AIDS or who are HIV positive. Their rents will be set at 30% of income. The project sites are located at 1406 Seminary Avenue/International Boulevard and 6600 International Boulevard.
