Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Cultural & Ethnic Awareness

Mission: To serve as an inclusive platform that supports the richly complex cultural diversity that informs east hawaii through exhibition, performance, workshop, and creative inquiry. To remain a vibrant gathering place for art and culture, that is available to the ever-evolving voices in our community. We are committed to a dual obligation that values work - to maintain the highest possible standards for presentation and attention to the artistic perceptions expressed by all of the people in our geographic community. We believe this combination creates opportunity for inspired dialogue, and appreciation for performance, presentation, and engagement with both local and visiting artists. We are culturally and socially inclusive; supporting host culture and other voices in our community. Our goal is to inspire wonder, curiosity, new ways of thinking, and civic action as pathway toward building a sustainable, healthy, and generative community that will rally in support of ehcc arts programming.

The East Hawaii Cultural Council was founded in 1967 in order to present quality art exhibitions, performances, music, dance as well as educational programs to East Hawaii. EHCC oversees the running of the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art a facility containing meeting rooms, performance space, rehearsal space, class rooms, exhibition galleries and museum school. Although it has seen its ups and downs over the decades EHCC seems to have improved over the last couple of years presenting relevant exhibitions, supporting local art and artisans as well as bringing exhibiitons from outside the state of Hawaii. f you haven't been at the museum recently give it a try.
