The ECU Foundation is a remarkable organization that follows the University's motto, "To Serve", with a singular focus. Recognizing that our 29 counties are among the poorest, least ecucated and most underserved in terms of health care and other social resources, the Foundation has stepped in with a vigorous program of creating scholarships, educational programs and development of teaching resources. And these efforts have been effective with minority students excelling, with transfers from our regional community colleges, with high graduation rates.

Mission: The foundation exists for the purposes of supporting and promoting the educational and charitable purposes and the lawful activities of the ecu division of health sciences.
Programs: Program and faculty development - the foundation provides support to various programs and departments for the schools of medicine and dental medicine, colleges of nursing and allied health sciences and the laupus library.
scholarships and grants - awards are provided to qualifying students to enable them to attain a quality education of higher learning. During the fiscal year, the organization disbursed out 230 student scholarships totaling $929,236 and 35 teaching/educational awards totaling $14,105.
education and research - aid and support are provided to students, professors, and residents for their research in fields of medical science. During the fiscal year, the organization funded 9 different research programs in the following fields:- diabetes & obesity- cancer- cardiovascular disease- genetics- immune health- alzheimer's
