I am a Legacy Law Fellow with the Earth Law Center. My experience with ELC has been nothing short of phenomenal. The Director, staff and volunteers have all made me feel welcome. My prior experience in law was well outside of the issues ELC works on, but the training has been great and opportunities to work on projects come very quickly. The work ELC does is very much cutting edge, though I expect over time it will become mainstream given the achievements ELC, its staff and volunteers have already accomplished. If you care about the environmental issues confronting us daily or just enjoy the natural world, please consider supporting ELC, financially or as a volunteer.
Earth Law Center is an incredible organization. I worked as an intern for ELC during my first summer of law school, and I could not have chosen a better place to work. The work environment was supportive, energetic, and positive, and I was able to work on cutting-edge legal projects that expanded my skills and experience as a law student. I felt the staff members at ELC truly wanted to get to know us and valued our input, which made me feel like a integral part of the team while I worked there. As a future lawyer who hopes to work within the Rights of Nature movement, I could not imagine a better place to spend a summer.
This is an incredible organization! The work they do is so important and unique. Getting to be a part of it was beyond rewarding. Grant and Matt are some of the kindest and best people I have met. Could not recommend more highly!
Such amazing people who are passionate and knowledgeable about environmental law and the future of the Rights of Nature movement. I cannot say enough about their commitment to the mission of a greener future.
I was a summer intern at Earth Law Center and absolutely loved my experience. I felt that all the work I did meaningfully contributed to their mission of environmental protection. Their office was also a very welcoming, positive environment.
I'm volunteering for this wonderful organisation as a Legal Counsel. The team is full of driven individuals, working hard to make an impact. In many different ways we are standing up for nature, each from our own (international) background and skills. Earth Law Center is involved in an immense amount of projects, cooperating. I find it's fantastic to be involved to rebalance the relationship of Nature-Humans. After working as lawyer for 10 years, I love to offer my legal knowledge and skills to fulfil this mission.
Earth Law Center is a dynamic non-profit that is doing great work to address complicated issues like the biodiversity crisis and climate change through innovative programs. Earth Law Center works to align legal systems with nature's laws, moving communities towards a more eco-centric and balanced relationship with the natural world. The staff of ELC is fantastic to work with and they are committed to working within their community in Durango, CO as well as with communities on a global scale. Considering supporting ELC!
I was lucky enough to intern for ELC after my first year of law school. I can say with certainty, it was one of my most valuable experiences to date. ELC is unlike any other non-profit, they are truly challenging the way that law can be used to protect the planet. Supporting ELC is supporting innovation.
I am grateful for my experience as a legal extern at Earth Law Center while I was in law school. ELC challenges the status quo in meaningful and important ways, addressing issues from unique and thoughtful perspectives. ELC’s fight for the rights of Nature is most noble, and I am proud to have been a part of this great organization composed of great individuals.
I volunteered for the Earth Law Center (ELC) during summer 2023. I spent 2 1/2 weeks at the seat in Durango as well as climate week in New York with them and had an absolutely amazing time! The team is full of truly inspiring dedicated people that really care about protecting the environment and transforming our laws so that we can all live on a healthy planet. I was really inspired and encouraged during the time and would immediately recommend doing an internship or work experience with ELC or just supporting them in any other way! They are working on super exciting projects and you can mostly choose on the topics that interest/ concern you most or that you are most passionate about! It feels more like a family than just a work organization, which is based on sharing an equal passion and mutual support. I absolutely loved my time with the ELC and have it in a very special place in my heart. It deserves the most of support it can get!
Earth Law Center is such an incredible organization that is full of knowledgeable environmentalists. While working with ELC I have learned so much regarding ecocentric law and the initiatives that act to protect the rights of nature.
Earth Law Center embodies hope and action in the realm of environmental protection and advocacy. Their commitment to advancing legal frameworks that prioritize the well-being of our planet is truly commendable. What sets Earth Law Center apart is their innovative approach in advocating for the rights of nature, fostering a shift towards sustainability and ecological harmony. In addition to having a principled mission, they are great place to work, volunteer with, and learn from.
Overall I agree with and praise the work of the organization. However, even after my time I was left confused with what they do and how they do it because I am a very detail oriented strategically minded person. My volunteer experience was unfortunately unsatisfactory due to what I connect to a lack of leadership within the organization. The absence of strong direction and clear communication left me feeling disoriented and unproductive. Tasks were disorganized, and there was no cohesive strategy for achieving the nonprofit's mission. It's disheartening to witness a potentially impactful organization struggle due to leadership issues, and I hope they can address these shortcomings to better utilize their volunteers and fulfill their mission.
I encountered Earth Law Center after it moved to the town where I live--Durango, Colorado. It's a scrappy, hard-working nonprofit that's helping to push the boundaries of environmental law through direct legal campaigns, advocacy, education, and more. Also has a super impressive roster of folks, whether staff, board, or volunteers.

Earth Law Center (ELC) is a wonderful organization and community that leads ambitious, meaningful work to advocate for and implement ecocentric laws. Some aspects I admire most about ELC are: the strong earth law philosophy that undergirds its work, the breadth of projects it undertake, and the positive and encouraging work culture.
Everyone is extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful. As a law student, I learned a lot and was able to delve into topics that interest me.
I think what they do is worthy and will have impact in the environmental field. I am personally interested in being part of it because I think in Ecuador, where I live, we need to articulate actions between NGOs and Universities for the communities to get real help and impact, so I would like to join ELC to help to find cooperation with universities. When I mentioned this to them they liked the idea, and now we will keep in touch to find out the way to make it possible. I think that is great.
I loved working with the Earth Law Center this past summer. Even working remotely, I felt honored to be apart of a community doing such amazing work.
Enables cutting edge research on legal issues facing Nature. Has mentors who are experts in their fields.
Wonderful people who really care about the cause! It's been a wonderful experience collaborating with them.
Earth Law Center (ELC) is a top rated charity because:
ELC is committed to moving the ball forward via frontline initiatives with local partners.
Communications as a program area is much needed in this space.
The volunteer and intern model they have created would be great for other small non profits to model after.
The Earth Law Center is making a difference in saving our environment. ELC has been battling locally, nationally and internationally for several years to move the world away from an exclusively 'human-centric' point of view to recognize the rights of nature to thrive, survive and evolve. By educating the public and lawmakers, ELC is helping us protect the environment that we all rely upon for life itself. ELC has helped pass municipal ordinances and also international proclamations through the United Nations to protect our natural communities and biodiverse ecosystems. I have been a volunteer for ELC for three years because I believe in the mission and the organization.
I am a Lawyer from El Salvador. I have been working in environmental law since 2010. ELC is a great institution with which We have began working and defining stacks and projects.
I’ve been volunteering with ELC for about 4 months now and am thoroughly enjoying the work and the people. As part of the digital marketing team, I get the opportunity to work with talented, smart, and kind individuals who are all willing to donate their time to help this organization reach a boarder audience. There’s a great sense of community within the team even though we all work from different corners of the globe. If you’re interested in supporting a great non profit who is working to secure rights for nature and take on environmental challenges, be sure to check out ELC.
Earth Law Center is doing important work helping vulnerable communities protect their natural resources from exploitation by big business interests. I am currently working with ELC’s lead attorney on such a project. It is fulfilling work and I am proud to call myself part of their team.
The Earth Law Centre is full of enthusiastic and driven staff and volunteers who believe fiercely in their vision and goals to achieving Earth Law for the natural environment all over the world. Their connection reaches wide internationally and I am proud to be part of the team.
Volunteering with Earth Law Center has truly been wonderful! Earth Law Center helps you hone your skills and apply them to natural rights initiatives that you feel passionate about, so you know that you are helping make a real difference. The entire team of volunteers and staff members have amazing communication and are so helpful, informative, and appreciative. If you care about environmental justice and are eager to contribute to an actionable cause, then volunteering with Earth Law Center is an experience unlike any other!
It has been an amazing experience to work with and learn from Earth Law. Darlene, Michelle and Constanza are so dedicated, hard-working, passionate and insightful about creating legal rights for our oceans and marine life. It is inspiring and rewarding to work with people who are doing incredible work, but are still so grateful, accessible and helpful to their volunteers. It has been a pleasure volunteering for them thus far, and I look forward to our continued, meaningful work!
It has been an absolute pleasure working with the Earth Law Center. The organisation works tirelessly for the causes they believe in and have a remarkable network throughout the world.
Darlene is extremely helpful and passionate about her work. Grant is a wonderful person and a treat to work with.
Additionally, they go out of their way to help their volunteers with everything, which makes me really grateful for getting an opportunity to work with ELC.
It truly has been a great learning experience hitherto and I look forward to continue working with them!!
Earth Law Center and the people who work for it are amazing! They are constantly working to make the nonprofit and the environment a better place. Darlene has been especially helpful in creating a great experience for me as a volunteer. She is also grateful for any help and will get you on the right track.
It has been one of my best experience working with Darlene. She is fast, helpful, and grateful for everything you do for ELC. It has been extremely satisfying to use my skillset in helping ELC take a practical approach towards protecting and preserving nature.
